hey guys, i have a 96 1.8t so it has the old hvac design. right now the right side display blinks for about 2 minutes upon start up. also noticed that the a/c is warmer than usual. i dont know if the blinking is related to the "warmness" of the a/c. if anyone has an idea on what's goin on kindly chime in. havent vag'ed it yet but when i did the last time i couldnt communicate with the hvac im assuming its coz its an older model so i didnt bother vagging it yet. thanks in advanced.

yeah, that means it has a fault in the system.

there is a method to get it to display the fault if you don't have a VAG.

when i have the a\c on, the air recirculation icon goes off without me pressing it. when i press it again it goes off again after awhile. dont really understand whats going on. i tried the method where i check for faults through the hvac but there seems to be a lot of errors that i dont understand. anything i could check physically?

Sounds to me like you might have a dry joint on the circuit board inside the HVAC panel, the dry joints can sometimes be found where one (or more) of the 4 wiring plugs meet the circuit. If you are not familiar with soldering circuit boards then find some one who is. Should be a reasonably easy fix. :)

Yeah, the HVAC can display the fault code on its display, along with a whole bunch of working values it is receiving from various sensors...

Though the article above states it is for model year 2000, the tables are old and probably good even for your 1996.
