Question For Those Who Have Painted Grill w/ Plasti-Dip

Questions! I am about to paint my grill black with Plasti-Dip and I absolutely do NOT want any paint chips whatsoever, EVER. I'm willing to spend an entire day on this as long as I can completely prevent any paint chips that's the most annoynig and tacky looking thing to me I've ever seen, lol.

Anyway I was thinking about sanding down my chrome grill first with 80 / 150/ 250 / 400 / 800 sandpaper until the chrome is completely gone and it's very soft. And then washing it with soap and water and drying it with a paper towel, and from there spraying on some primer possibly? Or is this a waste if I'm using Plasti-Dip? And could I use a high-gloss clear coat after to give it a glossy finish?

How many coats are recommended for ZERO ROCK CHIPS for a good couple of years, lol. I am thinking 30 minutes between the light coats?

You are way overthinking this. Just use some 400 grit to remove all of the shine from the grill surround, clean it real good with laquer thinner and spray the grill.

4-6 light coats will be perfect...do not use soap and water, soap will leave a residue.

When you do your first coat it will look as if the stuff is clumping, do not trip, just let it dry for 20 min and add another coat.

yeah dude this paint is really awesome. I sanded mine with 200 grit just to help scratch it a little more. Then i washed it completely and then hung it to let it dry off completely. Then i just laid down like 2 light coats (let each dry completely), then i put 4 more heavier coats on (let each dry completely before each coat was applied). And the heavier coats still weren't heavy by any means they were probably regular coverage, enough to prevent drips. And it looks amazing.
