Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Simple question will these nuts fit on the stud conversion from 034?

Nuts(bottom ones if it matters): http://www.5zigenusa.com/english/pro...acing_nut.html

    Studs:http://www.034motorsport.com/product...ducts_id=18227

I want to still be able to mount my stock wheels on the studs, thats why Im not getting the cone seat ones from 034. Plus the 5Zigen ones just look sweet.

    Thanks for any help guys.

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

Don't think so. 5Zigen's appear to be m12 size. You need m14. 5Zigen's I believe are cone seat. OEM Audi 's are ball seat. I have yet to find an m14 x 1.5 pitch ball seat tuner lug. I have been searching for 2 years now.
To make things even worse, Audi's ball seat diameter is called an R13 size. Most ball seat nuts are R14. I've had to send back nuts from ECS and Stasis because most companies don't check closely as to what ball size they are sending to their customers and are selling R14's to Audi people. They will work kinda, but do not seat well, and could become a safety issue.
The only R13 ball seat nut I could find was from Puremotorsports.
The other option is the VW aftermarket company Empi, makes wheel washers that convert an R13 ball seat to a conical seat. Then all you need to do is find M14 x 1.5 pitch conical seat tuner lugs. But, I don't know how safe the Empi washer set up is.

So the m12 and m14 refer to the pitch of the thread? Thanks

    nope. Diameter of the bolt.

    (Examples)
Metric bolts have a measurement for diameter in values of M6, M8, M10, M12, M14, etc.
Pitch of thread is measured in values like, 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, etc.
The diameter of the ball seat is measured in values like, R12, R13, R14, etc.

Most Asian imports run M12 diameter with a pitch of 1.25. Audi's use M14 diameter with a pitch of 1.50.

Because most tuner lugs are built for the Asian market, they are M12. To complicate things even more, almost all aftermarket rims use conical seat lugs, so aftermarket tuner lugs are conical. OEM Audi rims are ball seat.

There are tuner lugs for Porsches, which are M14 x 1.5, but they use an R14, which is a much larger ball seat diameter than Audi.

Again, I've been searching for 2 years now for tuner lugs, and have given up on the idea.

Just getting ball seat nuts that have the right diameter have been a PITA for my stud conversion with OEM wheels.

After going back through some old notes, I was incorrect about the diameter sizes I told you in the earlier post. The correct diameter ball seat for Audis is R12. The only place I found them was from Pure Motorsports:
    http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=2010
All the other companies out there I tried ordering from kept saying their ball seat nuts would fit my rims, but when I test fitted them they did not seat all the way down. They seem to have R13 size nuts. They appear to fit the hole from the front, but when you look at the rim from the back, there was always a gap where the ball did not seat all the way down into the hole.
Here is a picture I took and sent to the companies to prove that the nuts they kept sending me were not the same diameter ball seat as an OEM bolt. And that they are possibly unsafe if people are using them. I threaded one of their nuts onto an OEM bolt. As you can see, the nut is slightly larger in diameter.

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

I went to put on wheels today and found my stock (ball seated) lug nuts too short. I was going to by cone seated nuts in a longer bolt but im glad i checked hartmann's website to see they need balled seats too.

anyone ever buy ball seated nuts from an audi dealer? how about from a vw dealer (its closer)

Wouldn't the dealer just sell the same stock ones you have?

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

yes they would sell the rounded lug bolt like what I, and other VW/Audi's have, but couldn't they also have the a longer rounded one that is used for some other vw/audi's?

You really want to pay $150 for lug nuts?

There is an option with the 034 stud kit to swap out for ball seat. Did you see that?

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

you think that's what it would come to? If so, I'll overnight some from ecs.. I just want the shit on this weekend!

I'm patient when it comes to finding the right part.. but once I find it I'm not patient about paying for and getting it here.. the tires showed up today after work and getting these wheels on asap consumed me!

No, you hijacked the OP's thread. I was replying to his need for ball seat lugs for the stud conversion.

Also, just noticed you bumped up an 11 month old thread.

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

Call the dealer and ask them if they have anything longer then 14x1.5x28mm (which is stock). As long as you get at least 6-7 full turns you will be okay. I didn't think hartmann needed longer bolts unless you ran spacers?

That's right. That's how forums work. We shit on people for NOT searching, and instead creating new threads with topics that have already been covered in other threads, remember?

It's about consolidating information, and this thread is about lug nuts (and bolts). In case you didn't read the information contributed by the other people in the thread -- I'll make you aware that there is a lot of general info about sizing of lug bolts, and how to find what you're looking for. In fact, I answered almost all the questions I had by reading it. The last question, which I posed, which has annoyed you.. is about the where -- where to buy the bolts once you determine what you need.

    So get off me.

The thread jacking/bumping old shit.. that mentality is what leaves forums full of random 10-post threads about the same topic over and over.

    Now where was I..

So I just bought a set of 50mm bolts from ECS to use with the hartmanns.
With 2 day air shipping (in time to get the wheels on this weekend), it came to $70.

I measured the stock ones at 31mm? And that's (31mm) what NAPA had listed for a stock lug bolt on my car tonight (in their book) when I went in to see if they had anything longer. I know .. I know, NAPA.. but they were the only ones open after 6pm est.

Anyway, it looked like we needed a bit more bolt.. so I went with 50mm. Hope that's not TOO long.

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

I was going by what ECS had on their site

To determine the correct bolt size, add the width of the spacer to your stock lug bolt size (28mm for OEM applications).

    then again pureMS says this

    8D0601139D 14x1.5 R13 Ball 27mm - Black, OEM Audi/VW

    and OEM part number 8D0-601-139-D

I do know if the lug is too long it will bind the wheel out the other side of the hub. Are you running spacers or just straight wheels? If you got them from NAPA then it shouldn't be a problem to test and return them if it binds the wheel, if you ordered the 50s from ECS I'd give them a call in the morning and see what they think you should do.

Edit: Nevermind I just re-read and you got them from ECS, I'd call them anyway since sometimes they are slow as balls shipping stuff tell them you want it sent out ASAP. I personally think 50 will be too long without spacers, you would be safer with 35s but I would ask them anyway to be sure.

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

Yeah I think I need to call and get a shorter size.. like a 35/37mm

but I wish I could find SOMETHING on hartmann's site saying what lugs you need without spacers if you want to run these wheels..

edit: called ECS..they suggested I go with 32, so that's what I switched to. We'll see tomorrow if it's the right length

    Re: Lug Nut Question..

    they're a 35 offset (current hartmann rs4 reps don't come in 35 anymore)

sooo should I be ok with 32mm or should I order another set of longer nuts and send whichever don't work back? haha
