    Unhappy Transmission problems?

    Hi,
i was just informed by my mechanic that my 01 allroad needs a new transmission. cost $6000. I noticed one day that i couldn't reverse up a hill as if it wouldn't drop fully into gear. It will reverse on flat ground, but i haven't wanted to push it. Does anyone know whether it's possible to repair parts of the transmission or is it always an all or nothing type of thing?

Also, i need a new cam shaft extrusion seal at $950 and a new interior rear view mirror at $320. Does anyone have a sense as to whether these costs seem right? i'm a bit distraut about all of this as this would pretty much out value what i paid for the car.

any advice would be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

    k.

    Re: Transmission problems?

Before telling your mechanic to have at it, I'd certainly get another opinion or two from other shops. That's a whole hell of a lot of money to trust just one mechanics opinion.

    Best of luck.

make sure your transmission is not in fail-safe mode!
if it is..then it's all about clearing the codes!!!
