    04 1.8t Service

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
04 1.8T currently at 41,400 miles... Upon start up, it displays,

SERVICE IN 00 MILES, 13 DAYS

Whats that mean? Do I need a 41,000 mile service?

Secondary question, when I had my 35,000 mile check up, I switched to synthetic. Whats the time frame for oil changes, 5K miles or 10K?

    Re: 04 1.8t Service

no, you dont need a 41,000 mile service. Just follow the service schedule in your manual. That service reminder is there just to do that, remind you. You dont have to follow it by exactly what it says. You dont have to bring the car in every 5k miles. Look in the manual to see how to reset it if it bother you. I reset mine every time i do an oil change so that I have it conveniently right there in front of me.

    Re: 04 1.8t Service

oh, and if you bought the car brand new and did your oil changer every 5k miles, then you should probably continue with oil changes every 5k miles. If your the second or third owner, make sure there is no sludge in the engine (these engines are prone to sludge build up if not properly maintained. If its there, then you should do the changes a bit more frequently.

    Re: 04 1.8t Service

If you are using synthetic changing every 5k is a waste of money, and retarded. Audis corrected oil servicing is well beyond that, im sure people on this forum know alot more than audi does. If you drive your car reasonably than 9k shall suffice (remember audi suggests 10k and the oil that audi uses is not only synthetic but a premium synthetic) I go every 9k and have no second thoughts, save your money!

    Re: 04 1.8t Service

the guy at the service dept. told me he suggested 10K, so I wanted to make sure, seeing that it is about $100 for an oil change.. As I said, coming up on 42K miles, any services needed?

WHY did I get that service code? I don't know how to clear it, so it still says SERVICE!

the codes are programmed to go off at certain points. Turn key to acc, then hold the wrench button for 10 seconds then turn car on and hit the 0,0 button. Or something along those lines.

    Re: 04 1.8t Service

The key to this post is that I am running synthetic oil, not standard Audi oil, that's why I was asking intervals...
