On my 01 b5 5 speed, I love the stock shift knob but I want to put on my Kamei golfball that i had on my mk2 and mk3 gti's. I know the thread size is the same, but the boot doesn't move down far enough for me to get the golfball on there all the way. Any ideas?

I believe there is a rubber piece in the top of the boot. Maybe remove that?

    Re: quick question..

there is a plastic piece that if you take off the boot and turn it inside out you can trim down to get it to slide further down. the whole console around the boot just pops up so take that off and it should be easy from there
