    Start-up and Gas pump issue

Alright....start off by noting i have an 03 1.8tQM. When i let the car sit for more than an hour and try to start it it will fire up and after about a second just shut off. The immobilizer icon does not blink. It is pretty consistent and is really annoying... Also i have another problem and i do not know if its related or not. When i am at the gas station pumping gas it will click as if it is full after like a gallon of gas is put in. It will keep doing it and will take about 10 mins to pump gas. Right before it clicks it sounds like the gas is coming up the filler tube... I dunno. If anyone has any ideas please share. Thanks in advance

The code isn't related. In the morning go out and turn the key on and off about 5 times in 3 second intervals. So, key on for 3 secsonds but don't crank, key off, and back on, 3 seconds, etc. This will prime the fuel system. If the car starts fine without stalling your fuel pump check valve has failed and the fuel is running back to the tank. You'll need a new pump and replace the filter while you're at it.

Guessing you overfilled the tank at some point the the charcoal canister is fuel of fuel. Had a similar issue that was resolved but removing canister and empting fuel and letting it sit out for a while and dry.

Yes the code and the hard start can be related. If the n80 is stuck open fuel vapors fill the intake while the car is being filled causing a hard start condition and a p0441, it can also cause a lean code due to the vaccume leak it causes.

Re: Start-up and Gas pump issue

well problem fixed for now i guess....disconnected the charcoal canister and pumped gas with no issue.... car starts fine now. i've been driving around for a week now with no cel. but this is seeming to be a common problem on these cars as ive been reading. but im happy now to have found the culprit. thanks everyone
