    Bent Turbo Stud!!!!! [suggestions???]

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    So I was installing a testpipe on a buds B5 a4.
All was going good till I bent the bottom turbo bolt that is screwed into the exhaust housing of the turbo (holds the cat). I was able to bend it back, but the threads are a little messed up. Can I remove this stud? If so, do I just get 2 nuts, tighten them together and then unscrew in inside one?? Any other suggestions?

    TIA

Its so hard getting to that last bolt on the bottom. Im afraid I will end up twisting the stud and breaking it off.

Pull the cat/testpipe back out of the way. If it's not in the car you have a lot of room to play with. NTM more traction on the stud you need to remove.

I know a lot of people that have used a stud extractor like this one, but I've personally had better luck with my Vise-Grips, IF there's room.

What do y'all think about just continuing to screw the nut back on. The bolt is somewhat straight, but the threads are just a little messed up.

yeah screw the nut back on with some lube and it should fix the threads as you tighten it

Ill try that, its just so tough getting that thing back on there. But I will try my hardest to screw it back on. I guess I need to go buy a new swivel or something. Antisieze type lube? or like wheel bearing lube?

anti-seize, wd40, pb plaster. just so that it makes it a bit easier to turn when the friction from the bad threads comes up. Might be a bit easier if you go at it from the wheel well. i tried from the top but the angle was much better from the wheel

    Re: Bent Turbo Stud!!!!! [suggestions???]

if you thread the nut on without running a die over the threads you WILL cross thread the nut. Then when the downpipe has to come off again, you will end up bending the stud again, it will then probably snap off, and you will be bakc at square one.
I would do it right the first time, get the bent one out now, replace it, and not worry about it later.

    Do what you must :)
