Whats faster with the CVT; D, S, or simulated manual

What is the fastest mode to set it on, Drive, Sport, or simulated manual. If on simulated manual, what is the best rpm to "shift" at?
    Thanks

I don't necessarily believe that... I think D is just as fast as S but that's just from driving experience I don't have facts to back that up. I would love to see some facts on which is actually faster...

ps... 500th post.. what what (in the butt)

I don't have an S on my CVT..... I always use the "shift mode" because you can have it shift before the turbo runs out of breath

hmm definitely true for 1.8T guys, lucky for my 3.0 having torque in all bands of the rev range.

What rpm does the turbo "run out of breath"? What do you shift at? And why don't you have sport? That's weird.

I don't have a CVT but D and S modes are the same for acceleration. S just keeps you in a higher gear and lets the engine brake for you a little.

I dunno.. I don't have a sport and don't need it. It's super weird a CVT would have a sport because doesn't the sport make it shift at higher rpms? And when you're on "automatic" on the CVT there are no shifts at all.

    Anyway I shift at 5500

No from what I can tell it lets it rev maybe 100-200 rpm higher, and keeps it in a higher rpm all the time, for an example ill be doing 80 in sport and the rpms will be at 3700 then when i shift into drive it lowers the rpms to 3200.

I've noticed that from a stop...the mode makes no difference in the takeoff and through first gear and "D" actually feels like it gets to speed quicker.
From a roll (or moving) though, "S" is certainly more fun and wayyyyyy more responsive to any throttle input. It doesnt shift on you right away like having it in "D" does.
Gas mileage is worse, but fun factor is better.
    It's your choice I suppose?

I never use the tiptronic mode on the car except if I'm going up or down a steep incline...

Re: Whats faster with the CVT; D, S, or simulated manual

From what I remember when I had my CVT, it will go into a sport mode when the car detects that the driver is driving "sporty", I did feel the car kinda difrent when I drove it "sporty". I also drove an A4 with the "S" on the CVT and it felt just like my car when in "sport mode".

But either way, the car is much faster in simulated manual. I used to shift it at 6000 rpm.

The CVT front trac does have sport mode! At least my 2005 ultrasport does! I shift at 5200 rpm anything over that your turbo loses boost, my personal experience-----> use tiptronic!
