    Re: FMIC HELP

behind a s4 front.. U can fit a beefy fmic. I know a 2.5 or 2.75 shouldn't be a problem at all. Just have to cut the bumper support a lil for a taller core. The s4 front gives you the most room out of all bumpers to fit a fmic if I am not mistaken.

well if you want a good one price wise go with an ebay one i have the godspeed intercooler and it was like $250 and its great had to chop out some of the stock bumper but other than that it was great but if money is not an issue for you than i would go raceteck.

Most likely, I just went out and measured before posting.

Here is the ER comp on a B5 without a bumper, the ER core is 24" with the end tanks meaursured at the widest point.

Its cool. Thats their standard Competition kit, they make a copy of my FMIC which uses a 800hp Garrett core and is only $100 more then the Comp.

You have to end up buying a flange and have it welded to the cold side IC pipe.

Go with the Racetec if you can get one. They fit well behind the bumper with minimal cutting and it will meet your HP needs up to about 350-400hp. I wouldn't go any larger than that, especially if you don't have any mods.

Well what size BT, because Fred does have a APR stage 3 with his Racetec. It will handle a GTRS on a street tune, pushed harder then that and a ER Comp size fmic will be needed.

It still helps to know what your final HP goals are, because for example the FMIC that Mike runs will fit behind an S4 bumper but it is still to large for a full gtrs setup or even bigger.

    Re: FMIC HELP

Yeah he should hold off on upgrading the FMIC till he does put in that large of a turbo. A large FMIC would just cause lag and make the K03 work even harder for no gains. Plus he would have to make 2 different hot side pipes to work with the 2 different turbos which then ends up being wasted money.

I would try and get other things first like an intake or exhaust that won't really hinder your performance now but will help when you go BT.

I got the exhaust and intake. Why would the front mount hurt my hp? and are the rods necessary? I'm 99.99% sure i will get them before the BT but I have read so many opinions and just want more input. Thanks

Volume. All that extra volume added between the K03 and throttle body means it will take the K03 longer to fill it up and work harder to keep it filled while trying to force the air thru it and get to the motor. This is why the FMIC always needs to be the right size for the turbo being used. So too large is just as bad as using something that is too small.

Best to just install the FMIC when you actual install the larger turbo.

    Re: FMIC HELP

as mike stated, too large of a fmic will cause too much lag for the stock turbo, which would actually diminish power until you replace the turbo. the ko3 cant pump enough air to fill all the piping of the fmic so velocity goes down, but for the same reason, a Hyu-Jass Turbo will flow too much air on the stock smic and be heavily restricted as well as heatsoaking very early.

from my research and experience, you can run a small bt setup (eliminator) on stock internals with proper tuning as long as the engine and supporting mods are in good shape, but once boost and rpms start getting serious, it becomes necessary very quickly. even with a small setup it is recommended, as its always better to be safe rather than sorry.

Diode mod will not work when you dont have the map sensor in there at all because the ecu will see that the pressure never gets above Atmos.
