Update w/PIC Question about snow tires and steelies?

I found a set of steelies and snow tires on my local craigslist and i was wondering if these would work for my 02 avant with stock sport suspension(Link below). Any comments, suggestions or ideas are welcome and what do people think about the offset and if you have any pics of something like this please post them.

Thats what i was thinking ugly. I have my stock 17's but its impossible to find used snow tires for that. they cost brand new anywhere from $600-$800 and i see no need to spend that much money as I will be using them for just a few months to go snowboarding.

Either way Im gonna go check them out today after work i think and I will still be looking for some used winter or all season 17 inch tires.

Any other comments on the steelies are welcome!

3.0 brakes are a bit bigger than 1.8T right? the only thing I would worry about is brake clearance. I have a set of 15" steelies myself and they are pretty close (1.8 brakes). I would recommend a test fit.

BTW steelies are awesome.

So I picked up the Steelies last night, Test fitted the rear only but the guy i bought from ran these on his '07 Passat which i believe has same brake pads. So i thinik i should be ok plus the offset is 45 just like stock wheels. i will post pictures later.

OK so i test fit the rear only yesterday because i was in a hurry and didnt have time to do the front. Just by the specs of 5x112 ET 45 and 15 inch OEM VW/Audi Steelie. These should clear the front brakes no problem right???? Please someone confirm this or im gonna run home after work and test fit the front.lol.

Reason i ask is because someone above mentioned that 3.0 brakes are bigger then 1.8 which i dont think is true but can someone confirm.

3.0 brakes are actually a common aftermarket upgrade for us.

I saw a kid driving around town recently in a early 90's civic hatchback (you know the car I'm talking about) with one of those plastic spinners from autozone....the other 3 wheels were uncovered.

Dude, you already have the rims. Just test fit them to find out for yourself. If I knew off the top of my head I would tell you, as I'm sure anyone else here would have already.

True. The steelies came of an 07 passat. But im not sure if it was a 4cyl or a V6. I'll call the guy i bought them from to ask!

I'm pretty sure they won't. I have 15" steelies from a mkV Rabbit on my car at the moment and my 1.8T brakes just barely fit and there is NO way 3.0 brakes would fit in them.

Do you even know what spacers are for? Spacers change the offset of the wheels so it clears your caliper. They don't increase teh size of the rim so your whole rim can clear the brakes... May I suggest some tirerack reading.

Rear brakes don't matter since they're so small, you should have test fit the fronts instead.

I'm pretty sure (and by the looks of the pic you posted), they are the same wheels I have.

1.8t have smaller brakes than 3.0. 15s from passat will fit the 1.8. i had a set and worked great--really tight/close fit though up front though but shouldnt need spacers. 15s are lighter and smaller and will make the car more nimble and quick. loved them for my winters cuz i didnt care if they got scratched, salted, or bent. definitly cuts through snow/ice better than my 17s.

Hey guys, thx so much for all the help. BUT unfortunately they did NOT fit so i returned them to the guy. So now im out on search for a good used set of winter tires for my 17's.

Try to get your hands on a set of 16" Steelies from a B5.5 Passat, those should fit no problem.
