High Idle in Neutral, Please HELP!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm really confused right now, My car was perfectly normal until today when I was driving to get some food at school today. I noticed when I put the car in neutral, the idle would go up to 2000rpm. Then when it would go back to normal when put into gear. I ignored it, then the idle started going up to 4000!! I turned around and immediately parked the car. I tried searching but no luck. Im sorry if this has been brought up before. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great, Thanks.

Well if that was the case then why wouldn't it rev up when its in gear? When the car is in gear, it seems to run fine.

The Generic OBD2 scanners I am pretty sure can not do throttle body adaption, I would go to the regionals see if anyone local has a VAG com that they can perform this. But for all i know its a simpler issue I'm just throwing out related ideas that could be simply/cheaply done.

I should probably also mention that the check engine light did not come on. I don't know if that has anything to do with this.

well maybe your problem will go away but in our cars we have adaptive throttle or something similar that adapts to your driving style. The throttle alignment just resets it, which hopefully will solve your problem permanatly. It's fixed for now right?

Not really, I thought it was but I was wrong. I talked to a friend of mine who drives a gti and had a similar issue. He told me it could be the fuel sensor because when the idle is high, i press the gass and shift into gear and it temporarily goes away. He has a Vag Com and we're gonna see if that's actually the case.
