Does anyone have DIY for replacing the front BOSE speakers with pictures? Will I need to reset my radio if I do this?

    Re: BOSE speaker replacement

I don't have a writeup with pics but I just replaced mine with alpines. All you do is take the door panels off by taking the trim off starting from the side closest to the hinge. Remove the 4 screws behind the trim, the gently pry the door panel off. Then youll see the speaker. If you got just a speaker without the baffle youll have to unscrew the speaker from the baffle and pry it out because they're glued to the baffle. Replace the speaker and youre all done, put the door panel back on and enjoy. To answer you're ? about resetting the radio; you'll only need to if you disconnect the battery. Do you have to? No. Is it a good Idea? Yes. I just realized you have a b5, what I just told you is for a b6, but Im pretty sure its the same. Im selling the speakers I took out of my car if you need them, PM me.

Man, it's real easy...2 screws up top on the sides of the door, and then 2,3 screws under the hand rest on the door and then just pull up. I just went through replacing the speakers...definitely go with the factory 4" size. And yes my bose system had 4" drivers in the front. Some replace with 5.25" but you will have to order adaptors and if you rig it, it usally doesn't seal correctly and will not sound good (I tried). I went with Infinity 4" (2ohm) and they sound great.

can you link me to a place i can buy those? would they be *better* than just getting a used bose ?

if I go to crutchfield and select my car, and then go to front door speakrs they are all 4 inch but say modified fit... whats the deal!

Almost any decent aftermarket speaker will be better than then the stock bose, and almost any decent 5.25'' in a baffle will be better than the 4". Generalizations of course, assuming you don't buy pyramid and pyle.

    Re: BOSE speaker replacement

The infinitys are great because they are 2ohm (like bose) and they fit perfectly. All you need to do is cut 3 of the 4 mounting prongs off and you can re-use the factory mounting plate and rubber baffle. I also put some silicone around the outer ring of the speaker to insure a air tight fit. Took about 1.5-2 hours tops. What you need to keep in mind when buying speakers is that you don't want to under power speakers. Not only is it harmful for the speaker, but it will not sound like it should. So if your running the factory bose amp, 35 watts rms is all you will need. So the reference infinitys are perfect. My 4" front speakers sound a lot better then others running 5.25 up front, because 1) they didn't create an air tight seal, and 2)the 5.25" speakers usually can handle more watts and were under powered with the factory amp. Hope this helps...here is the link.

why is this? JHM just pulled my engine and the battery was disconnected for 2 weeksish and all of the presets were still there and no code was needed

They probably did it for you. As soon as you disconnect the battery, you'll need to enter the radio code.

I'm sure the code is sitting right there in your glovebox and they did you the favour of doing it for you already.

Guess I should've put the stipulation- assuming they're both properly set up (ie. not underpowered). If you're using the factory amp, then 2 ohm speakers are definitely what you want.

So you have the factory Bose headunit and amp, just replaced the speakers?

Does it honestly sound better or did you do that because your stocks blew?

Weird. If I disconnect it for more than 10 seconds, I always have to reset the code. Not a big deal, takes 30 seconds max.

Yes, I have the factory head and amp. The speakers where beginning to buzz/distort under high volumn, so I just replaced them...and they do sound better. You can get those speakers brand new off ebay for $48. Let me know if you need the sellers link.

    Re: BOSE speaker replacement

the 2 ohm impedance is the important part here as others have said. with a standard 4 ohm speaker, you will get half of the output of that channel of your factory amp. which will not sound balanced and you will be disappointed. just make sure to stick with that spec. good luck

Radio Code: Same with me...I've disconnected the battery many times and I've never needed to input the radio code. I've always wondered about this!!?
