    Woohoo clutch slipping!

I guess it can be expected on a 105k mile s4 driven pretty hard with stage 2+ for 65k of those miles...

What would you guys recommend? I'm contemplating the VAST stage 3 clutch from JHM with lightweight flywheel...any other suggestions?

if I do end up buying from JHM,I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on a front mount and a few other goodies...

    Re: clutch suggestions

RS4 would be my first choice to retain most stock driveability. But, Vast St. 3 is good, too.

    Re: clutch suggestions

rs4 is too little for what i want. i want something that can withstand a good beating if im at the track...

as for low-rpm chatter,i could do without it...is that an issue with all LWFWs?

    Re: clutch suggestions

Southbend FE here...for you, a Southbend OFE would be your best option. The lightweight flywheel will most likely have some chatter at low rpm. So stick with an OEM flywheel if you don't want that. But the Southbend clutches are very nice.

I never understand why people say the RS4 isn't a good track clutch. MANY stage 3's guy run it, and you can buy two of 'em for the price of the CM.

I have a CM stage 3. Its a realllly light peddle, very predictable engagement, easy in traffic and its held up at the track. So far mine has 3 5,000k launches and 6 4,200k launches and 2 2step launches and 7 WOT shifts..... Yeah.... I do record every little thing I do with my car, down to the date and time.

Because it costs a ton of money to pull your trans. And it's a huge PITA if you're doing it yourself. Better to do it once and do it right.

Some people have had luck with the OEM RS4 clutch. But many of them slip at stage 3 power levels. And how much would it suck to have a brand new clutch slip immediately after break in?

At the very least I'd go with a Vast kevlar or vast ceramic setup. Those will hold a lot more power and you sacrifice very little in drivability.

However, I'd personally stay away from any clutch that uses the OEM RS4 pressure plate (which includes all the vast setups). I've personally had too many BS issues with the RS4 PP and have read of countless other issues.

fwiw I've had an OEM RS4 clutch, Vast Kevlar clutch, CM stage 3/4 and a full CM stage 4.

The CM stage 4 with CM lwfw is, by far, my favorite setup. Very smooth, very little, if any, chatter and much lighter pedal than the RS4 clutch. The vast kevlar was very nice as well... but I really don't like that RS4 PP.

^ Agreed ... but we're talking Stage 2+ versus EPL Stage 3. I haven't heard anything about the OP going stage 3.

    Re: clutch suggestions

haha, I read the title and saw he was stage 2+ and that he was "contemplating Vast stage 3" and then I stopped reading. I guess he was talking about the stage 3 clutch. haha. oops.

As stage 2+ an RS4 would be fine. But it might be a good idea to go with something stronger if he plans on going stage 3 in the future.

    Re: clutch suggestions

just put in vast stg 3 and vast lwfw. the flywheel makes the car sound like a diesel truck in low rpms (up to 1800-ish rpms) but, it feels really good. I haven't launched the car yet, but i have let the clutch up pretty quickly when I wasn't paying attention at a stop light and it grabbed like mad. if you're easy on this setup, it's not too too far from the stock feeling.

When I was in the I upgraded to the jhm shifter linkage upgrade and the dehlrin bushing. very nice, crisp shifts. and you might as well while the tranny is out of the car.

I also did the 034 tranny mounts 90% stiffer than stock. The only time i can feel the differenc in shaking is when the a/c is on and I'm sitting at a red light for 3 minutes.

I also did my rear main seal while I was in there... all I have to say is... make sure you do that right or you will be pulling your tranny for a second time like I had to... suck.

but, all in all, I heart this setup.

+1 for southbend im running one thats good for 525tq on my setup i believe. I dont think the lightened flywheel is something you need especially right now. I opted not to get one because I want the car to slow down when I let off the gas!! lol
