Do you guys change your oil while its hot or cold?

Also, when you change your spark plugs and oil do you do the plugs first while the car is cold? Then drive the car around to warm up before changing oil?

    Re: oil change

before you do the oil change let the car sit for a while (best if you let it sit overnight or for a few hours). That way all of it has drained to the bottom of the oil pan and you can get most of the old oil out.....and you dont burn your hands by touching the oil or the engine.

Always do it hot so it all come out quicker and any particles with be suspended in the oil and come out with it.

    Re: oil change

do the plugs with a cold engine. for a oil change it doesnt really matter. personal prefferance really. optimally i would do it with a "warm" engine. but usually do it right before i leave work which means the engine is cold.

    Re: oil change

oil change, do it when its hot to warm. (se above) if you can do it w/o spilling any on yourself, then do it hot, if you can't then do it warm.

as for plugs, just do that whenever. its more a comfort thing, so don't do it when its super hot.

Never change spark plugs on a HOT engine. You can strip the threads in the head. Go out with a torque wrench and torque a spark plug down with the engine cold vs the engine warm. You will notice a big difference in the way it torques down.
