Re: castrol syntec 0w–30 european formula

I've been using it in my Nissan Maxima for years. Its fantastic oil, the 0-weight is amazing for cold starts and the 30 makes its usable all year round, never had a problem on the hottest days sitting in traffic.

It seems to be a "thicker" 30-weight, if that makes sense. My factory service just ran out on the Audi last week, so I'm going to switch to Amsoil 0-30 or Castrol 0-30.

I've read the 0w30 german castrol is a true group 4 synthetic. How true this is, I do not know.

^yes its says "European formula" and if you look on the back it says made in germany. i've been using it for a few years in other cars and in the audi and seems to be good oil. its hard to tell what "good" oil is unless you get lab test results which i have not done. i have recently switched to lubro moly and notice less ticking at start up.

Thats not always true. Run some royal purple then switch over to Lubro Moly, Total, any 'highend' oil and you will notice a good difference

GC 0w-30 is a excellent all around oil. It's a Group IV oil and on the thicker side of 30 weights (just under a 40 weight). I recently had a oil analysis done at the 130k oil change. Results were excellent, wear at or below averages and lots of life left at only 5k of usage. New TBN is around 11 IIRC. Could run it for 7500 mi without issue.

The previous owner of my car used mobil one 0w-40 and there was a slight tick on start up. I switched to Castrol 0w-30 and haven't heard a single tick since. I get a nice range of weather in upstate NY too.

A perfect example is the reduced ticking on start up. The RP jsut feels like water compared to the other oils. I cant explain the science behind it but the oils feel different, some better than others

That is what I use year round. It is famous stuff. On the "Bob is the Oil Guy" forum, there is a section for this specific oil all by itself. aka "GC".
(German Castrol) There are several reports of spectroanalysis done on this oil proving it is made from very expensive, actual 100 percent synthetic ester base fluid (Group IV,). It is the only true synthetic besides Redline that I know of. I have also heard that this is the oil Audi uses as factory fill. One of the properties that only an expensive grope IV oil can have is the multigrade rating like 0w-30 without any VI improver additives that prevent loss of viscosity due to shear down in use. GC doesn't need any VI improver additiive.

Bingo! GC is probably the best value in oil around. I've been using it for years.

Great stuff Now I have a good reason to give people when they ask me why I use GC.
