Above the mirror allows for perfect front and rear coverage as well, without that damn thing in the middle of your windshield. Which, by the way, completely negates the benefits of a remote display, whether it has a goofy yellow thing next to it or not...

Doesn't the tinted area on the top 15% of the windshield interfere with the quality of reception? I've got V-Kool tint / solar film and I think that's not helping with reception quality either.

If someone here has V Kool working with their V1, did you have to cut a hole in the film to improve reception quality?

Hearing it is more important to me, but it take only 1/2 a second to glance down at it. I rather have it there because I'm a neat freek and like it hidden when not in use which is 90% of the time while in the city.

call me an idiot but what is the point of this remote display if the Radar has to be in plain view at all times? Some of these installs makes it look like it would be more dangerous to actually take ur eyes off the road and look at the display rather than just looking up towards your rear view mirror, I dont get it?

Re: Let's see pics of your V1 Radar Install...!

^ ugh, aight. the v is in the center because i didn't read the manual that states "right next to your rear view."
    whoops, my bad.
i run the hidden down on the center counsel because ***AT NIGHT*** it blends with the counsel lights and since i was in VA and DC (radars are illegal) it kept cops off my ass. i do a lot of night driving all over the states (once again, at night), so it keeps tag-a-longs off my tail as well.
yes, i am aware that during the day, the remote display isn't going to do shit, but i still have it on because by now it's muscle memory to look there instead of up.
when i get back to the mainland, i'll def be moving it up by the rearview. imo, it looks hella better.

no need for the stealth display, despite how cool the ADR one is. And do yourself a favor and mount your V1 in a place thats not only in the middle of the windshield, but also in such a location that hardwiring it wont leave a cord dangling all over the place...

actually, I had my ADR disabled for a bit and made me appreciate how much easier it was for me to look at the gauge cluster rather than rearview. could be a personal preference, but ADR is the only way to use a radar.

I agree, moving the V1 up close to the rear view will take maybe 3 1/2 min.

I have the sensors installed in the headliner with the display down below so even if I got pulled over there is nothing to be seen. I drive a fair amount in Quebec when out of the city and detectors are illegal there.

Re: Let's see pics of your V1 Radar Install...!

Does anyone use the visor clip for their V1? I like to use it because radar detectors are illegal in VA, and not being able to see the suction cups on the windshield IMO helps keep the cops from seeing it. The only problem with using the visor is that you have to pull the visor down and almost balance it at the correct angle to make sure it stays flat. When I first started using the visor, if I hit a big bump the visor would fly up and the V1 would be pointing towards the ground. This was pretty annoying but I figured out that I could take the cigarette lighter out and put it between the visor and the headliner at the perfect position to keep it flat (Jerry-rig to the max). But I've used the visor so much that it just stays at the correct angle now. A few weeks ago I finally hardwired it to dome lights. Most of the time I drive in the city and don't use it, so i just tuck the cord up under the visor and it stays out of the way.

I think some police have detector detectors, but my understanding is that they use VG2 in which the Valentine one blocks. I have a friend who works for Fairfax County Police and he said that only a few officers have the detectors and I don't think they really use them. The main thing to worry about is that most of the time they use laser when they set up a speed trap. I haven't been pulled over yet (knock on wood) but if I was, I would just take the V1 down and put it in the seat storage area and hopefully they wouldn't notice...

Be Careful there I have donated 2 V1s to the QPP. They have the Spectre (RDD) that can pick the V1 from quite the distance. They were kind to send mine back after I paid the fine - which was more than I paid for the detector.

The V1 is not detectable by VG2, but Virginia Staties (especially NOVA) have been using the Specte since 2006. Depending on the verison of your V1 and the version of the spectre, the V1 can be detected at 1500 Ft plus. Good thing is that Va does not confiscate the detector and the fine is much less than a speeding ticket.

Re: Let's see pics of your V1 Radar Install...!

^^^ Thanks for that info! Would you happen to know how the spectre works? Is it easy to pinpoint what car has the radar detector? I would assume if you are in a group of cars, it's going to be a lot harder to pinpoint the car than if you are traveling alone on the highway... I got my V1 in August, so I'm guessing it's pretty up to date but I'll have to look into that. Thanks again for the info!

I still believe this is the best one!

having the ADR one is a waste I think. You're effectively taking out all the other information that's displayed there. Also, if your gas light or any other indicator comes on, you cannot see info from the V1.

    my 2 cents

The spectre works almost like a radar detector. Lights and beeps faster when it gets closer.

Not so good music but you get the idea.

Its honestly so easy its ridiculous. I dont even have it bolted down it just slides in there. And the fuse box is right there. You basically have to ground one cable and stick the other one in a fuse. And CB radios are legal everywhere, Im jus searching for an antenna thats sleek looking.

how do you find the channels and stuff? I'm good at wiring into the fuse box and what not so that should be easy. How does yours work with no antenna?

Having those sensors installed in the headliner reduces the range of the detector.

Plus you have to disassemble the V1... no warranty, no upgrades... No thanks
I've got the concealed display installed in the ash tray.. works great. And the main reason for the concealed display isn't to hide the detector, you still need it mounted where it is most effective. But, it does help with the losers who want to follow you at night cause you have a V1.

The RS4 install looks nice. Not a huge fan of the ADR though... mines sitting in my garage. LOL
