i hate boost leaks...

yesterday i went open throttle and one side of the tbb popped off... so i clamped it back as tight as possible. today i open throttle again and see that i have a boost leak. my psi wouldn't go past 11 and drops very fast. i checked for tears in the hoses and made sure all the clamps are on tight. it SEEMED fine but is there anything else i can do besides bringing it into a shop?

Yes, check for the boost leak yourself. Do a pressure test. Check all your hoses, especially the IC hoses.

make sure you open up the butterfly though when your doing the pressure test, otherwise if it is your TBB you wont know lol... mine kept popping off, it turned out i didnt have that bottom part of the boot on quite all the way. Do not be afraid to tighten the shit out of it! you dont want it to come off again.

You also may want to take out your fog light cover things and check the upper and lower intercooler hoses,but that doesnt sound like your issue exactly but it wont hurt to check

yea i'm going to need some new clamps... i'll do that and hopefully things will go differently

UPDATE!! so my problem was i didn't have the bottom part of the boot on all the way. i got a clamp and tighten all the sides again.. i took it for a test drive and it was still leaking, but not as bad. it would peak to 15 and start dropping slower...ideas???

Sounds about right to me. Did you pressure test? Was the throttle body boot damaged at all, not tears, but fraying near the clamp area? Sorry if you answered these questions already but there's been so many boost leak threads recently...

good question... 15 spike and tapering from there seems about normal for APR 91 juice.... unfortunately you wont see such high boost with the 91 craptane

lol yeah i know apr 93 is less aggressive then giac and being you have the 91 im thinking your boost sounds normal.

no... because i use to spike to bout 17 and taper down to 15....TBB is in great shape. when i open throttle it would spike to 15 and juss gradually go down...

is it a tip or 6spd?

I know if its a tip and your using drive then it tapers down about 2-4psi towards the redline. I have giac x and i just changed my N75 valve today because i was having a similar problem and now my boost is holding 16-17 spiking to 18-20

thats the DV'S. THere was anohter thread where people were saying my car sounds like there is a BOV and they changed there dv's and it went away. Just take your dvs out and inspect them, they are prone to fail eventually...

you probably have a tear in one of the crappy dv's... as for upgrading i just bought a pair of 710n's because a lot of people like them, but if you have lots of money i would go for forge 007 or apr d1's or soemthing metal.

That they hold vacuum. Stick your thumb in the valve and push the little plunger up. Cover the small nipple with a finger on your other hand. Look through the opening on the the other open side of the valve and the plunger should stay up as long as you have your finger over the nipple.

UPDATE... my boost gauge would suck in vacuum more than usual and would hold boost at 15 psi now, but would still jump up and down randomly. i brought it to a eurotuner for a boost leak check and there wasn't any problems with it. he told me everything was fine and that i should drive it normally until something goes wrong. he thinks it might be the boost gauge that could be faulty.... i have an APR gauge that worked perfectly before.... any ideas guys??

Put in a different boost gauge and see if that changes anything. Contact whoever you got it from, and see if they will warranty it for you.

smoke test the car, if there is a leak you will find it.
