    Help oil leak! Urgent

At the rear of the front subframe where the transmission meets the engine I have an oil leak. It is on the engine side where the engine and tranny meet. When you lay underneath the car and look up there are openings with bolts deep in them. This appears to be where the oil is coming from. I'll try and get pictures soon. Any idea and what it'll take to fix? I was thinking it might be the rear main, but my clutch has been fine. I need to take my car back to school on Tuesday (its a 3 hour trip), so I only have a few days to fix this. TIA

Yeah, your upper oil pan is leaking and probably your camshaft seals and camshaft adjuster seals are leaking too. 2.7 motors all leak a ton of oil. It's the only thing they do well. I doubt you can fix these leaks without a lift, especially the upper oil pan

Yes, if you see oil up in those holes, it is the rear main seal. If it is not excessive, the clutch may not be affected, at least not immediately. If your clutch is not relatively new, just wait to replace the seal when your clutch goes. The transmisson needs to be removed in order to fix this...

rear main seal??? I work on these cars everyday. I have never seen a rear main seal leak. Never. Those bolts you see oil droplets on, those are bolts that hold the upper oil pan on. If there is oil on them, you need to re-seal the upper oil pan. Trust me on this. I work on audis for a living

I have learned something--thank you, and I am being sincere. So this leak is no danger to the clutch, then, because I have the same issue. Have you seen any turbo oil return lines develop leaks? My driver's side always seems to have a drip on the bottom of it, but it has the braided covering, so it is hard to examine the hose, while on the car. I did have the cam seals above leaking down into that general area, but I replaced them, and am reasonably certain that they are no longer the problem...

when i comes to oil leaks you start at the highest place and work your way down, start with ur valve cover gaskets and cam tensioner seals. i work on audis all day to and have never re sealed the upper pan. and i have never seen a rear main seal leak either. just start where i said clean it good and re check it
    i heart my s4
