    Garrett Turbo blanket

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Sounds to me like a pretty damn good idea.

"The Blanket is designed to retain the heat in the turbo, reducing the loss of energy/heat from the turbo. This intern gives the turbo earlier spooling and greater horsepower potential."

Not to mention it keeps the temperatures in your engine bay down..

don't you want the heat to dissipate away from the turbo? Or is it cool keeping your turbo super hot?

I understand trying to keep the engine bay cooler...

unless it has the same properties as a turban. because although turbans wrap the head, they keep you cool from the desert sun and help you cool down. it's weird

hotter the exhaust gasses the quicker they flow.... Think about cooking oil, compare how fast cold cooking oil would flow compared to hot oil.

    Re: Garrett Turbo blanket

you'd probably be better off getting the turbine housing coated by swain tech if you can afford the downtime (a few weeks) - it would be a little cheaper and cleaner looking too.

I was just skeptical about the "earlier spool" part, but I guess that makes sense having hotter air going through the exhaust side moving quicker.

exactly. The more heat you keep around the turbine housing = the more heat carried through (and out) the exhaust.
... at least that's my understanding.

What drives the turbine wheel is heat.

Heat = Energy so you want the heat to be in the turbine to get more heat to the wheel and not be in the engine bay where it doesn't belong.

    Re: Garrett Turbo blanket

Its all about the air density. Colder air is more dense which means it takes more energy to move it so keeping your turbine hot means less dense air which means its easier to get out the exhaust.

Thats why its only good to make your exhaust piping big up to a point. After it gets too big it will eventually just become a big heat-sink for cooling down the air in your exhaust.

I would think so, they are basically the same turbo and use a T25 housing.

Cool, I guess Im going to order one. I want to wrap my testpipe but I dont want to have any "leaks" that could mess things up. Is it hard to wrap the TP up right?

It might be hard with it in place, but very easy when it is out.

Do you plan on doing anything to the manifold?

that was taken from their site.
    Horsepowerinabox.com manufactured "in House"
Horsepowerinabox.com is the manufacturer of the original and what we beleive the best turbo blanket on the market. We have produced a limited run of Turbo blankets in various sizes with the Garrett Logo embriodered. Apart from looking great, these blankets have the usual heat retention properties. You get a reduction in engine bay heat, while retaining heat in the turbo. More heat MORE POWER!! Click here
