A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The car used to be an A box. I now have an M Box with the vast Maf conversion kit. Cars runs just fine but I dont have any istruments besides battery voltage.

Prince @ Vast told me to do the following:

    1. In vagcom go to Engine / Software / Check coding and recode to 06711.

    2. Go to Instrument cluster / Adaptation Channel 60 and change from 0 to 1025.

When I went to change the code from 06611 to 06711 I to my surprise saw that it had changed automatically.

Then, I did step 2, but found out that adaptation channel 60 is actually a 5 digit number. So, instead of entering 1025 I entered 01025.

I cycled the ignition and cluster still does not work... please someone help me get those gauges moving again.

    THanks,

I don't have the answer for you man, but I'll give ya a free bump anyways... BTW, are you doing this to fix the misfires or for another reason?

No, the missfires are not ecu related... it misses just as much with the new one. As a side point I am running and ABT chip now... is it supposed to spike at 19psi? seems very high.

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

with my new ecu though I am getting a silent code.

18057: Data Bus Power Train: missing message from ABS ECU

Under the abs section I am getting no codes. Is this code just a result o me not having traction control because of being an 00 with a M box ecu?

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

ok, gauges are working.. I guess the instrument cluster is a little "slow" in accepting the settings..hmmm... I'm still wondering about that 19PSI spike.. is it normal for abt software to spike that high?

It might be; I always heard/thought that you aren't supposed to swap ECU's between pre & post 2001.5 models (probably because of the ESP features, which you're probably discovering right now). Again IDK for sure, but that might be why you're having problems...

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

yeah, you might be right.. I wanted a Hitachi maf though so I kinda had to. Plus I heard that ABT/AMS was be best balance between smoothness and power so thats what I got. Its just the 19psi boost spike that worries me a bit... it goes to 19, and then instantly drops to 14 as if I let off the throttle.. then it goes to 15.. stays there until about 4500 rpms.. after that it settles at 12 until redline....

I am gonna log block 115 tonight and post some results...

well, I am no good at graphing but here is a couple of logs with my ABT ecu and my Hitachi maf conversion from VAST, as you can see, not so good... definite throtte cut in a couple of places (bold).

I cleared it and it didnt come back but still....

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

should I worry about putting a MBC to taper the spike or is that ok as it is? Also, I'm not at all liking that throttle cut shown in post 9. Since this chip boosts kinda high what kind of TCD should I look into?

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

I cleared the codes and went for another run... tonight I again got this code:

16487: Mass Air fLow Circuit -G70: High Input [Sporadic]

This is a BRAND SPANKIN NEW maf. I got everything from Vast, including the wiring kit and all wires were soldered in and then individually taped. This is really bumming be out.

That and now I also have a Coolant System malfunction code.. I am not looking forward to replacing my thermostat!

Re: A to M box conversion... Problems with instrument cluster coding

The guys over at vast are helping me figure outs whats wrong.... they seem to be a helpful bunch. I found out that the high maf input code only comes on on a 5th gear pull... after the spike I am getting some throttle cut (drops down to 30%) but the maf values stay very high regardless... right there it throws the code. So, now I am gonna put a Hallman MBC in parallel with the N75 and clip some of those 19psi spikes... hopefully I'll see some good results.
