Need tips for doing CC mod

I'm trying to do the clear corner mod and after an hour or so of drilling into my headlight I figured I could use some help. I've drilled through both the top and the bottom tabs and I can kind of get my finger in through the blinker slot to push on the tab and see if it moves. It bends, but it still seems like the tabs are doing their jobs. Anyone else have this problem and if so any tips? (My tools are limited, I'm using a really small drill bit, and the only grinding bit i have for my dremel is pretty large). Oh, and if it makes a difference, I have stock halogen housings. Thanks in advance.

All I can suggest is to make sure that when you're drilling that your bit is actually touching the tabs. You want to make sure that you drill enough of the tab away so that it actually slips loose. I have xenon beams and I took my bulbs out. It enabled me to stick my finger in far enough to kinda flick the tab loose. I can't say if that will work for halogen though.

Screwdriver? I don't think the hole I made could even accommodate a screw driver. I took a pocket knife cork screw and bent it straight to make a pick, but that didn't do any good. So the hole should be big enough to fit a screw driver in? When doing it I figured I would rather under-drill than over-drill.

Re: Need tips for doing CC mod

Use a "cutting" drill bit...I used my dremel and it worked like a charm. once I had the whole drilled I was able to widen real easy and cut into the tab until it fell loose. Make sure you seal it real well afterward because now I have condensation in my headlight and don't know how to get it all out...

Re: Need tips for doing CC mod

When i did clear corners, the whole I drilled was probably smaller then a grain of rice. You really don't need it that big, as long as you drill it right at the tab, and then shake it off. But then again, I got relatively good at it, since I've probably cleared 10+ sets.

Re: Need tips for doing CC mod

^ same here. The first headlight took me about an hour, but the 2nd one took about 15 minutes. You don't want to stick a screwdriver through the hole that you're drilling. You want to be able to drill the portion of the tab that is holding it in place. A better way of looking at it is that you're grinding that portion of the tab away with a drill bit. Then it'll come loose very easily. Look very carefully at it and you'll see the tabs on the upper and lower portion of the reflector. That's what you want to grind away. You want to drill as small a hole as possible.
When you're done, use some silicone sealant or something. That's what I used to seal the hole. No problems at all after that.

Haha, is this payback for posting a joke about the ambers in your thread? Well deserved, I suppose. I just think it looks so much cleaner without them IMO.

And yea, maybe I will post something in the regionals, I'm sure someone around here would be down to drink some beers and mod some lights haha.

Thanks a million for the offer man, but Nate (doublezero) actually came by and helped me out. Turns out the only thing I was doing wrong was using too small of a drill bit. So, for anyone who reads this thread in the future,

USE A GOOD SIZED DRILL BIT

It looks great, especially since I just DIY blacked out my grilles the other day. Thanks again to all who responded and Nate who helped my dumb ass out.

What did you use or do to pull the lense. I'm well aware of the drilling part, sounds easy, but getting to the lense and not scratching up the chrome is my concern!

I'll throw some up tomorrow, but we found the best method was to shake the amber lens into where the high beam is normally, stick a pair of wire cutters or tin snips in there, and just break the lens piece by piece. Then, when you get it down to about half size, just try and shake it out through the openings on the side. It took both of us about a half hour to finish the headlight we were doing. It might not be the best method, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably do it the exact same way.

Oh, and I wish I wasn't so nervous to do this mod before, because it's easy (but annoying) and has great results for the look of the car.

ive only done mine but i used a really small bit like the size of a grain of rice and drilled one time straight down through the tab then used a L pick and my finger to break it out of there. if you look at my housings only the factory sized hole from the tab is there. nothing else.

Yea, I'm kind of disappointed with the size of the hole there, but not having those ugly reflectors is worth having semi-ugly holes.
