    LA Sheriff Ticket...

Does anyone know how to get out of a speeding ticket in LA County? Got pulled in Malibu doin 60mph in a 45mph zone by a bike *** ($158 fine). People say to call into the Court House and reserve for the cop to show, if hes a no show, which is very possible, the ticket gets thrown out.
Anyone else done this or have any other ways - I have till 12/12/08 or I can file for 1 month extentsion as well.

    Re: LA Sheriff Ticket...

I would pay the $158 and go to traffic school. The time that you are going to spend fighting that ticket is going to cost you more than the $158 cost of the ticket and a few more bucks for school. If you really want to fight it, I can give you all the info but it still not 100%.

You could also do that pay more than the fine amount and when they refund you the difference, put the check in your desk and never cash it. The court won't be able to close the case until they get the cancelled check back for their records and your case will sit in the city's courthouse forever and never get sent to the DMV. Don't know if this still works and I gotta assume that the courts have caught on to this trick and done something about it.

$130 really doesnt seem that bad either. However, I had a run in with the malibu courthouse about 4 months back now and I won by protesting via written declaration. Still gotta show up for court though.

Yea Mitch! He was doing 60 in a 45 which I would hardly call speeding.

When he does a buck + onto freeway onramps, like I do, then you can say something.

    Re: LA Sheriff Ticket...

if you can do traffic school, do traffic school. with online schools it's super easy.

if that's not an option, i think trial by written declaration is what most people prefer. Cops don't like extra paper work which a trial by written declaration is.

I was stopped by the CHiP last monday along the 5 freeway south- he honed in on me- "I was just going to give you a verbal warning for your speed...." according to the officer. But he said he saw that i have front tint on my passenger and driver windows, so he had to stop me and give me a citation.
I asked him how fast I was going, he said approx 80 (BS!) cause my digital speedo was showing 73 (which is 70 on my gps). He let me off with a verbal on the speed, but gave me citation on the tint. Which I already have someone that will write it off. He did write on the ticket the 'verbal' warning
    "70 on 65".. really now..

If I got a ticket for speeding its because ive accepted the fact I was speeding and coming on the forums and complaining about it will do NOTHING!

How do you do this??? I want someone who will "write it off." Is that someone who takes it off or someone who signs the ticket saying 'it's been taken off'???

do traffic school if you can, if you already have and can't do traffic school, do a trial by declaration. so far it's worked 50% for me.

The latter. However, i may still have it taken off anyways later (the front windows), and have a lighter tint put on- just to minimize sun/heat, and well, avoid any more unwanted attention. i currently have 35% all-around, none on the windshield of course.
A friend in sherrif's dept will write it off in the meantime, but i rather not rely on him having to write it off over and over. I would like to reserve his help for a more legit issue. (knock on wood)

Hmm...this thread was for me to get help on my matter, k thx

I can still opt for Traffic School, but Im goin try to do the trial by declaration to get fully out of it since it has a pretty high % of working.

That's awesome. I went 20% all around but I also went loco for a bit and had light (55% or something like that) put on the front windshield. I like it but I don't at the same time. You can't tell unless you really look at it. I'll probably end up having it removed if I get a ticket for it (knock on wood).

Hoping the cop dosent show to the appearence date isnt a good idea. They get paided over time when they need to go in, plus they get to hit on all the cute girls that work at the courts.

For CHP, its mandatory to show when called, Police/Sheriff dont have to come, and even if they do get overtime, is it worth for them to get $20 more from coming to a speeding citation that will last 15min in court?

for CHP officers, the minimum overtime you get is 4 hrs. Figure 15 mins of court for 4hrs of pay, the base officer's hourly wage is ~ $45/hr. You're talking about $300 to make sure your ass gets a ticket. would you do it? I would.

You won't get a ticket for having tint on your windshield, your call will be crushed. They are really strict about how illegal it is for that.

Yea, but I don't think that Calabria was complaining. He just wants to know if anyone has any advice on getting it dismissed. Nothing wrong with that.

    Anywhoo, see you soon Mitch.
