How offen you use your TIP????

yes, it's there, but who in this board really shift to the RIGHT and use the TIP???.. i find it kind of pointless to have that when i can't even shift until the gear is ready.. which the computer have to allow first..... or i could be wrong with it all....

how offen you use your TIP and how you suppost to use it the right way???

I use it all the time when driving in the snow, and when I want to pass someone quickly, or I just want to have some fun.

Usually a wide open throttle will blow the doors off almost anything around my neck of the woods...I do use it sometimes when I have a pig behind me so I can downshift w/o brake lights turning on as the car slows down...It's ALOT OF FUN @ a racetrack...When I goto summit point raceway in WV...It's all I use on the track....It can handle at least 10 wide open throttle laps before the trans gets hot... I call it the F1 mode : )

I don't know how differently non-dbw tip (98-99) works than a dbw tip (2000+) but mine is non-dbw and I use tip mode pretty much 90% of the time if not more. the tolerance for being able to shift up is pretty low and also holds gear til redline.

when i'm WOT or close to, i like to let off throttle between some shifts ~ i like to think its less stress for the tranny... my 190k parts needs all the love i can give em

I think tip mode is perfect for the way i drive; relatively hard daily.

I use mine frequently...but then again, I have the tip controls on the steering wheel, and recoded with VAG COM so I do not have to shift the gear selector into tip to use the tip buttons :)

Use it 100% of the time, mostly started using it for engine braking to avoid the awful squeak from the Hawk pads. Those things get noisy when they heat up. Also used TIP on the track and it easily lasted five 20 min sessions

when I first got it I didn't know if it was suppose to change the cd in the 6 cd changer or what...after awhile I figured it out. the only time I've really used it was at a drag strip and it didn't help.

With the chance of the 4.2 tranny going....I figure the less I beat on it the better. The main reason though is it seems to shift fine for me when I need to pass or take off from a light.

I have stick shift cars for when I want to shift.

Frank.. i think you should test it out yourself with an open mind..

same as you i never really switch it to the tip and rarely use the S-mode.. after reading some of the responds i went out for a nice little ride.. test out the tip and the S mode during this little riding to china town for some noodles .. my conclusion: i really enjoy the tip now.. it give me options on pull and push..

i also have a chance to use the S mode when a 330i was tailing me... was neck and neck until i remember 100 feets ahead there's a hot cop spot....

when i first got my car tip is all i use after waterfest i dont use it as much.. i want to get the Chip and Tip Chip.. i hear tip mode isnt really responsive until you get the tip chip

Because some of us do not have the 2.7TT! The battlewagon is more the wife's car, until a storm hits and I take it to work or to the ski hill. With the wagon loaded up with 2 kids, 1 decent size dog (no fluff muffins or punt dogs allowed) and all the gear for what ever, the tip comes in handy.

HHMMM I might have to start playing with the tip more. Since getting the C6 I haven't put her in tip at all. Been in S mode a time or two, but never tip. Used the tip in my B6 wagon and found it to be very behind the times. Almost have to lead the shift by a second or so. Maybe the A6 is better at it then my wagon was. Guess it's time to go out and play...

you folks don't sound very apriciative for what it is. Its a faboulus piece of technology. I especilly love down shifting! even though its problably not good for the tranny!

it's so much better for the mountain pass. I have a manual in my audi, but i drove my gf's TIP RSX over the cascade mountain highway. When i was in regular auto drive mode it would tend to shift too much so it would bog down and go slow then realize "oh shit i need more power" and so it would downshift again. This was a reoccurring pattern, so i eventually just stuck it in tip and left it there. But it was also more fun through the twisties too .

But overall i'd say I hate tiptronic. It has delays in the shifting, it's not as smooth as a manual, and i just don't like it very much. I've used it in my mom's passat, my mom's mercedes, my gf's RSX, and an 01 jetta 1.8t. I thought the idea sounded cool when i first heard of it. But then i used it enough times to learn otherwise.
