it's so much better for the mountain pass. I have a manual in my audi, but i drove my gf's TIP RSX over the cascade mountain highway. When i was in regular auto drive mode it would tend to shift too much so it would bog down and go slow then realize "oh shit i need more power" and so it would downshift again. This was a reoccurring pattern, so i eventually just stuck it in tip and left it there. But it was also more fun through the twisties too
.
But overall i'd say I hate tiptronic. It has delays in the shifting, it's not as smooth as a manual, and i just don't like it very much. I've used it in my mom's passat, my mom's mercedes, my gf's RSX, and an 01 jetta 1.8t. I thought the idea sounded cool when i first heard of it. But then i used it enough times to learn otherwise.
