Question Question about Recent APR Stage 1 and APR R1 DV upgrade

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey All, I recently had the APR Stage 1 flash and an APR R1 DV installed. Soon there after when I open up the throttle in D or 5 (tip) the RPMs top out around 4500 and then drop to around 2800. If I keep the throttle open, the car will continue to rev and drop (spool up and spool down). Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Thanks for the response. The car responds this way only when I am driving around 65MPH or faster. Through the lower gears, it feels good. Good timing and smooth shifts, and will pull to redline.

The variation in rpms occurs in rapid cyclic oscillations between the lower and upper rpms, right? If that is the case, then there is something causing unstable boost pressure regulation, and or the torque value calculated by the ECU to match the torque demands, is for some reason unable to stabilize on the engine settings required. A faulty sensor, MAF meter or something else, can provoke this problem. Scan the ECU for any fault codes.

Re: Question about Recent APR Stage 1 and APR R1 DV upgrade

Whenever the rpms drop does your DV open and close sporadically?

Usually after a flash, things that go bad are as follows:
    Coil Packs
    Spark plugs

Try switching to new spark plugs first, or regapping your spark plugs to make sure they are all the same. Lower the gap a little bit. Then if that doesn't solve the problem, you should change them out if you haven't already. Try also switching to sparks that are one heat range colder than your current (stock) heat range.

If that doesn't help, then it's probably your coil packs. It's difficult to say which one is going out, especially if you don't have a flashing CEL, but usually Coil 3 is the one that goes out first.

Chances are, you could be experiencing Knock or detonation.
If there's anyway to lower the timing or boost, you should try that too. Do you have access to a vag? Post up your logs, as it will be a better indication as to where your problem is.
