back from when my car was bone stock.

Yakima racks from ORSracksdirect.com. paid 360 shipped a year ago.i made the mistake of leaving them on for way too long and they damaged the clearcoat where the rubber came in contact with the roof. But they were perfect.. lockable and all.

Re: Audi's with ROOFRACKs and attachments

I'll try to remember to take pics tomorrow but I have an avant. I've dealt with both Thule and Yakima extensively for 11 years, hit me up with specific questions if you need. Towers from either manufacturer will lead to scratches if you aren't proactive and wax under them regularly or us some clear bra under the foot.

Re: Audi's with ROOFRACKs and attachments

I've got the Thule rack, with 2 * Thule Petolon for bikes and Yakima FatCat 6 for skis.

The only downside to the Thule, is that the bars aren't quite level, even with the correct fit-kit. I've noticed that the Audi OEM bars sit level, and are also slightly higher off the roof (could do with that height when my friends snowboards are on the roof).

I also wonder about the mechanism for removing the OEM. Taking of the 4 Thule towers is a bit of a pain to unscrew them each time. Hopefully the OEM has some come of lever / snap close fit.

Re: Audi's with ROOFRACKs and attachments

i have Thule aero bars...I powdercoated satin black to match b/w theme and the wheels, they do what they need to do, as well as being sleek. taking them on and off is pretty easy.

The pod, is black packasport "system 60"..i think. Nevertheless its a great pod, it opens from the rear but can be loaded from the side. perfect for a wagon or sedan, but a bitch for an suv. super sleek/aero dynamic, doesnt rattle like some thules, fully lined with carpet, and made with fiberglass not plastic. a little more $$ than most but worth it. also you can get them paint matched to your car if you want.

...was looking into inno pods as well. they have a sweet system which will allow you to open the box from inside the car, press a button and it opens/closes. check out there site...http://www.rv-inno.com/html_pages/cargobox.htm...the only downside, is i have too many pairs of fat skis and inno are soo sleek and aerodynamic that you cant put too much in them.

will post better pics when i get the rack/pod back on next week...SNOW IS COMING!!

No.. 19's all away around. I slammed the front though for H2O & Fixxfest, hence the rake...

I think I paid ~$300 for the racks and another $200 for the bike carrier. Installation/Removal is a breeze, takes like 10-15mins. The racks are supported by a pretty thick rubber, but I'd still wax the shit out of where the supports rest. Fit and finish is second to none, IMHO.

Ya that shit is pretty pricey, but to me, well worth the money for fit and the way it looks.

And, thanks for all the compliments.

yakima rack, 2 king cobras, big powderhound for snow

    pros
quick install, removal. everything is lockable. bike rack is the easiest to load/unload.

    cons
rubber feet scuff so i have to clay everytime i remove it. clear bra film will be installed under the feet soon to solve this.

I like the look of the lower bars on the Thule and Yakima racks...anyone have issues with snowboard bindings rubbing on the roof of the car? The OEMs seem to have room to spare so I may just have to settle for those.

Yes, with my Thule I did once get a bit of snowboard rubbing action, I managed to Scratch-X it away though.

(I think the air buffers it at speed).

Both thule and yakima make a product which angles the ski rack so bindings don't touch the roof. Also unstrap you ankle strap and tuck it into the high back while the high back is collapased.

I had a complete Thule rack system (roof rails, spolier and flat top 4 attachment) on my car for one season, but I got rid of it b/c the footpads marked my Brilliant Black roof.

    - I think OEM is less susceptible to leaving marks b/c of how it attaches to the car btw.

Whatever you do get, try to get a roof spoiler b/c it greatly reduces the wind noise.

    My Winter program:

I picked up the generic cross bars on ebay for $70 bux shipped. They seem to do the job but I just put it on today. I have the box mounted as far forward as possible but my spoiler hits the box and I am sure it is going to mess up the paint. Trying to figure out a solution - thinking that the 3M clear bra material might be the ticket?

does anyone know if they make a wind guard for the OEM rack?

Also, if you used 3M to protect the paint, does it do any damage to the paint when you take it off?

This can be prevented by applying chipguard pads to the foot locations prior to mounting. Also the footpads on Yakima are a fair bit smaller and the racks are easier to take on and off.

Yeah the snowboard attachment is OEM i got it at my dealer i had to find the part number and convince them it existed though. Its actually made by Thule though which i found out later and im sure it would have been less expensive than the dealer. I would definitely reccomend that attachment over all other though the fact that it slides out helps to assure you dont smack one of your stainless edges against your paint accidentally.
