What chip do I have?

I know my car's chipped, but I have no idea what software it is. The PO had it chipped and I bought it from the dealer and they had no previous info from the car. I've been told that a full scan with VAG COM will show me what software it is.....? Does anyone know how to tell what software I have?

Fumbled around with VAG COM today and could not find anything saying what software is installed..... ANYONE have any ideas?

I've not torn into the car yet to look at ECU board. Maybe I should do that, huh

whats it hitting for boost? some software is more aggressive then others. and yeah pull out the ecu,sometimes there's a sticker on the box

ya make sure when u pull the ecu, u unplug the battery!!!

Hold down the button on the cruise control while its on and see if you get you cel to flash. This is how I found out I had an apr chip!

yea APR software uses the cruise control as a program switcher. so if your cruise control works as cruise control, then you dont have APR.

Your cruise control still functions with APR flipswitch. You have to enter the programming mode to change programs, hold the set button for five seconds and the check engine light will start blinking. But if you only have a single program on the chip it's not going to blink and you could still have APR Software.

OP: Did you ever open the ECU up?

didnt know that. when i had my APR (which i didnt like) my cruise never worked,i had 3 programs.

Actually I only have one program on my apr chip and it will blink but only once. The ecu doesnt have a sticker on it.

Once what? per second? Hold it down for more than 5 seconds and see if it starts blinking faster. As far as I know, it's only a feature for multiple programs.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it indicates what the current program is and what options you have to change it to. I only ran GIAC for a couple of weeks before switching to APR.

My s4 was chipped when I bought it, but I wasn't sure what program it had. I started a thread about it and with help came to realize it was an APR chip. When I hold the cruise control button it blinks once. I believe that this indicates one option. I can not get it to blink more than once. My brother got his APR chip with one program ,also. But he later wanted a valet and race gas setting so he had it upgraded. Now when he uses his cruise control button to change settings he will get one blink for the 93 chip two blinks for valet and 3 blinks for 100 octane file. I am 99.9% positive that my chip is APR. When we logged the car the boost was also equal to what the known APR chip is running.

Yup, you're absolutely correct, it will indeed blink once on a single program ECU. I just checked on mine, one blink after 5 seconds, then another single blink after 5 more seconds. I guess I understood it wrong from the explanation on APR's website that says flipswitch is for two or more programs

Damn, that's sweet as hell. I didn't know GIAC had a PC based program that could switch programs as I bought my GIAC ecu second hand. I'll just load it on the same laptop I have my VAGCOM on.

Thanks for help so far, it's not APR though. I just tried. I'm spiking around 18PSI, but the car isn't running 100% right now. No worries about the threadjack, any addition of info is appreciated.
