    Fog Light Mod

So its not what you think. Is there a way to hook up the fogs to keep the fog lights on without pushing the button every time? Like when the car gets turned off with the fogs on and head lights on, next time the headlights turned on they come back on. Or if you want them off all the time just push the fog button and they'd stay off. Any ideas/imput?

    Re: Fog Light Mod

I was wondering the same thing...it was getting annoying to always turn them on. My vr4 was that way, push the button in and they will always come on with the lights, button out, and they wont.

I dont have fogs anymore though :(

umm just press the button, and it stays depressed until you press it again to turn it off. it turns off when the headlights are off.

exactly, he wants it to NOT turn off when the headlights are off, but only turn off when clicked. Example: get in your car, turn the headlights on, turn the fogs on, and then turn the headlights off... when you turn the headlights on again, the fogs are off... but we want them ON :) at all times when the headlights are on, unless clicked off.
    Why?
Laziness / not wanting to have to remember to turn on our fogs every time. It's just more convenient if the mod is easy.

    Re: Fog Light Mod

Looking at the write up for the fog light mod to come on independently of the low beams, you would have to find a way to have a relay always give power to the line that overrides the low beam switch. Then have the relay wired so its normally on, and u can turn it off with the switch of the fog light button. to me it sounds like a PITA and i would not bother. I would much rather hit the button when i want to. just my 2 cents

oOo I gotcha. I didn't know the fogs don't turn back on if you turn your headlights off and on again.

    Re: Fog Light Mod

Yea, would be nice. I wonder if you could just splice the switch into the same wire that illuminates the gauges at all times. Im almost totally wiring illiterate so thats obviously a shot in the dark.

    Re: Fog Light Mod

splice it into the acc wire (accessory) so that even when the key is in the ACC position, theyll be on,then theyll shut off for a brief second when turning the ignition to start the car,but then will stay on until you turn the key past acc or off...

fyi: ive gotten a ticket for having my fogs on when its not the "correct" weather. so keep that in mind when permanently wiring the fogs to always being on.

    Re: Fog Light Mod

Yes u can wire them up to an wire that always has power. But make sure you use a decent sized wire. Fog lights take a bit more power than your gauge cluster does.

    Re: Fog Light Mod

haus you dont want one that ALWAYS has power (aka a CONSTANT),that would mean the fogs are always on,even when the cars off. thats no good.

What I'm hearing is you want the switch to act like the pre-facelift '99 & earlier switch. The early '99 (pre-facelift) switch would stay depressed like this guy said ->

the 99.5 & newer switch is a momentary sw, you push it, it does its thing and pops back out (does not stay depressed). Not sure you can just replace the switch (the part behind the visible button) but that MIGHT work. There is a S4 fog light mod DIY out there somewhere (that I'm having a hard time tracking down) that MAY set-up your fogs as DRLs, but not sure, or it just might set-up the fog lights to be on with the parking lights, not sure since I can't find it. I'm a little hesitant to do a mod that I'm not clear on exactly what the outcome will be myself though.
