wires into engine bay through glove box?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
setting up a pa/cb system in my car. i'm putting the cb radio in my glove box. theres a rubber thing in the back of the glove box that makes me assume i can take it off and run wires? dont want to mess with anything. planning on having the antenna for the cb somwhere under the hood and then wiring my power for the cb to the battery and also wiring to a pa horn upfront someplace. anyone running anytype of wire into the engine bay from the glove box? thanks for anything :)

i looked and he has done work by wiring subs in his trunk to the batteries in the engine bay for power. i only need wiring through the glove box to the engine bay.

I would be concerned about one thing... most CB radio's have a built-in amp and that could potentially give off quite a bit of heat. In an enclosed space like that, you could damage the CB quickly. Not an expert, just my thoughts.

As far as running the wires through that hole, I think that might be designed for an A/C vent, if there is no A/C vent in your glove box already, then that hole just goes to the inside of the dash (not the A/C system). What I'm trying to say is, you could run wires out that hole to get into the dash, then find a hole through the dash/firewall into the engine compartment. It should work, but I've never done this.

Just keep searching on here and I'm sure you'll find somebody who ran a wire from the engine compartment to the interior of the car, then just get it into the glove box through the hole.

are we off roading that audi's now? exploring the true potential of Quattro??

With cell phones and two way now a days why would you want to downgrade the interior with a cb radio?? not to mention what the 4' whip antenna will do to add to the exterior appearance of the A4

if you use the nub shown on TJHUB's DIY you can run a power wire through there. When you remove your glove box your wire should be somewhere in the foot well. Im sure you can figure it out from there.

Re: wires into engine bay through glove box?

i personally think the gumball and bull run cars look sick with the antennas. i will not make mine as radical and it will be removable. im using a cb radio for a pa system and no cell phone can do that. i also want to talk to people on the road in front of me and no cell phone can do that. i also want to talk to my 3 friends who want one too and no cell phone 4 way calls that i can think of and if they do it's impractical. speaking of impractical, if i wanted to say to my buddy in another car "cop up ahead under the bridge" or "check out that other audi", would i have the time to text or call them? if i dont have service and i'm in trouble i can use the emergency channel 9. finally, its going in the glove box im not ruining the interior of the audi.

as for overheating, thats a good point and i never have thought of that. when it is on, the glove box door will be open of course sense i will be using the microphone. but even then im not sure. any better ideas?
