I have a 2003 A4 1.8T Manual. and every time i turn the car on, i cannot physically put it in gear. When its off, i can put it into all the gears without the clutch. when i put it in a gear and turn it on, the car has a rough idle like its misfiring. There are no CEL or MIL lights. can someone please help.

I have this happen to my car. But I really drive it hard, even when everything was stock.

The clutch is hydraulic, so first off check the level. On my car, the first time the aux. cylinder (the thing that pushes the clutch) broke. It plastic.

After fixing this problem.. about 2 months... I replaced the master hydraulic pump.

If you can go thru your gears with the car off, and not with it on, then the clutch is stuck.

Try this...
put the car in 1st gear (off).
turn the car on, and will it move as you crank?
