Going in for 55k service, some questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am heading out on Monday to get my 55k service done, I have the Audi One program thing where it is all paid for. I know they do routine stuff, change out the oil, check everything, etc. I got a couple of questions tho. Keep in mind the car is under CPO warranty.

1: My headlights are very foggy and always filled with moisture, pretty much never goes away. Can I get them to replace the entire housing, or anything along the line to fix it under warranty?

2: Will they check my rotors and pads, and if they need replacement, are they covered?

3: I have a couple of upgrades, APR Chip, K&N drop in filter (I also removed my snow filter) and F.I DPs and Catback. I am assuming because this is normal maintenance that they shouldn't bring any of this stuff up, I can also hide my chip, but I do know that they are supposed to replace my air filter, do I just tell them not to?

Thanks in advance, once this service is done I will start putting on my other upgrades, going with the Oettinger front grill and a new set of shoes + tires, woohoo!

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

    1. Should be warranty

    2. Consumables aren't usually covered, but I'm not familiar with the One plan. They will check the pads and rotors though.

    3. The chip may raise a flag. AFAIK, from what I've read in the service bulletins, if they need to update your ECU they must notify you that it will erase the aftermarket programming. You will then be spanked by a ribald Tuetonic Queen with a leather paddle and sent on your way.

Yea, headlights are absolutely not covered. Audi released a TSB but of course states that is not covered by any Audi warranty.

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

The headlights will not be covered unless the lens is broken, the fogging up is "normal". Their fix is to blow the water out with compressed air. I was told by a service advisor to call AoA and push the issue, maybe you'll get lucky... Do the O-ring mod, it works!

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

Last weekend it was raining in the bay area and my lights foggged up pretty badly. I had taken it to the stealership before and they had told me no dice. However, this time I told them that it was a safety issue and that there was such a thing as normal and excessive. Long story short they are replacing the headlamp housings.

Funny you should ask. I took it in the day before my 4 year 50k warranty expired and Joe at Carlsen really went to bat for me.

Headlights not being covered is ridiculous. They should be.
I think we should all call AoA and make an issue of this.

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

brakes wont be covered on an aftermarket warranty only the factory warranty on a B6. with the headlights its normal condensation.
they will however check everything they can to upsell work.
i dont think there are any flashes for the ECM on that model.
Just take care of your service Guy and im positive he'll take care of you.

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

I would if I knew who I was going to have. This is the first service since I bought the car in Denver, now I am living in North Carolina and have to drive an hour to the closest Audi dealership up in Raleigh. So I have no idea what to expect when I get up there, I know the second I pull up in my full F.I exhaust they will know my car isn't stock and I expect them to try and screw me. O well if they are cool and will help me out hopefully at the least with my headlights I will be happy. And my headlight condensation is nothing normal I can assure you. Both sides are entirely covered with water at all times of the day, whether it rains or not, and even when I turn on my headlights and let it sit nothing goes away.

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

I just had my 55K service last month. They did indeed check brake pads and rotors, and no, they didn't cover the replacement cost of the rear pads (which were down to about 3 millimetres).

Re: Going in for 55k service, some questions

To get your headlight replaced + failed inspection = possible new headlights

That's how I got mine replaced. State wouldn't pass due to condensation.

    oil change
    replace air filter
    change spark plugs
    "inspect pads"
    usual fluid checks as well.
    tire rotation

You can do all this on your own as I did...
