ok i have an 99.5 Audi A4 1.8T AEB Engine, with a problem

it started off with low boost. normally i would spike at 17psi. out of the blue i was boosting 13psi... so i thought it was from when my battery died and i couldnt start my car... i have Vag-com so i did a throttle body adaptation, and there was no change.. then it got worse a few days later... when i was coming to a stop, my rpms would drop to 500 then lower and stall. so for me to get anywhere i had to go into neutral and keep the rpms above 1k.
i put a post up on a local forum, and sent some 1 a PM that has a built 1.8 GTI. he took a look, and said its not a vac/boost leak, its my coolant temp sensor.. we unplugged it and it idled fine.. when i got home, i unplugged it and took went for a short drive up my road and stopped easy and hard. both times the rpms would not drop below 1k... but with the sensor unplugged i wouldnt boost past 10psi. does anyone else have any ideas whats wrong? is it the coolant temp sensor? do i have a vac or boost leak? is it fuel related? or just something else... id like to get my car back to its full potential..... thanks...JC

did u disconnect the battery cause if you did when u reconnect it you have to turn the key to the on position and let it sit for a few minutes. When i replaced my battery i didn't do this and rpms would dip very low and sometimes would stall.

yea ive readapted it with vagcom and let it sit in acc with the enginee off for like 20 min....

i think its the ECTS when i unplugged it, my car was pretty much back to normal but i couldnt boost past 10.. im going to pick up a new ECTS today, to see if it fixes my idle problem, and hopefully my boost issue... i just want some thoughts from other people to see what they think my problem might be

ok ECS has the ECTS for 24.99, i didnt want to wait, so i called my local Audi Stealership... 44.99 after tax.. i was like uh ok..... i was going to go to a VW dealer anyway... went there with the Audi price in my pocket waiting to see if i was going to get ripped off... VW dealer has it for 34.67. bought it, and im going to have to install it tomorrow when its not raining.. i cant believe the difference in price for the same part...

    Online 24$
    VW Dealer 34$
    Audi Stealer 44$.

    Re: i got a problem

well turns out, im an idiot....

so, since i still haven't fixed my car's idle problem... so i bought a new Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, going to install tomorrow... so that i havnt actually got around to seeing if that would fix it.. but i did come across some one saying that they had about the same problem as me cause of a bad maf... so i went outside to go check my if my maf was bad before i spent 160$ on something i dont need... and you will never guess what i found....... it made me feel so stupid you wouldnt even believe...

IT WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE AIRBOX!!

when i saw that i was like WOW i hate my self... i connected it back up tight and gave it a tug to make sure... and what do u know... my car is idling normal :DDDD im still going to put the new sensor in, just to be safe...

thats why i went to the vw dealer and told them i have a 99 passat... then i almost got screwed over when he was like... whats the vin.. i was like why, he said 99 was the split where they changed stuff over theres 2 versions of the 99. i was like oh its the new one... hes like ok, brought me the sensor an o-ring and the clip. saved 10$ by not going to audi, but spent 10 more by not waiting.. which i probly would have spent on shipping anyway

true that. i hate dealerships. my mom, bless the woman, paid like 550 for her brake job because her brake light went on. so they recommended she change her pads, when i'm POSITIVE we checked em out and changed her pads and rotors like 4 months prior. she didn't even have the money but had to fix her car to drive to work.
she's been stuck on the side of the road too many times to risk a brake light she said. she also said she didn't want to die over something like brakes. kind of makes sense

Everything i have ordered through ecs they have either offered discount 2 day shipping or they have given me free shipping. On the chip it was all free got it in 3 days. If you are ordering little things of no value then yeah its too much.

Try living in South Africa. I have to lube up before even looking at things online. I get shafted BIGTIME by shipping, and the exchange rate...
