Put on some different brakes...happy so far!

I put on some 2002+ A6/Allroad ATE calipers and matching rotors (321x30mm). So far so good...a nice improvement over my 3.0l upgrade which while to date was satisfactory is no longer so (at 25psi spike and holding 25 i had quite a bit more "go" than i did "stop"). Some new and improved pads will come springtime for some track duty, but overall I am pretty happy with the upgrade so far!

thought I would post this up...its another alternative to HP2 setups without the 8-pad system and equal or better stopping power!

When HP2 "warpomatic" was discontinued alltogether, the ATE was the replacement starting in MY 2003. These were used also in later allroad 4.2l cars, a6 4.2, etc. 4 pad system as opposed to 8 pad. Pretty easy brake to come by and has nice beefy (read big and heavy) rotors. Was a nice bolt-on OEM alternative to HP2, which I personally was never a huge fan of.

Re: Put on some different brakes...happy so far!

Sorry for reviving an older thread. Do you have pictures of these ATE calipers? I'm trying to figure out what I have on my C5 (2002). They don't look like HP2 calipers but it was my understanding that 2.7T C5's had HP2's until 2003.

Perhaps I have a later 02 with the new caliper or a single piston setup...

    thanks,
    Ian

Thank you! This appears to be what I have on my A6. So you're saying that this is an improvement over the HP2 caliper? Are they single piston or dual piston calipers? Sorry - I've only had the car a short while and haven't done much more than change the oil on it. I'm thinking of putting less dusty pads in there soon.

1 pot, 2 pad (per caliper) setup. the older HP2 used 4 pads per caliper and had a tendency to warp rotors and wear unevenly as a result.

additionally, at 321mm x 30mm, the rotors for these are a hair larger and more effective. overall a nice improvement of the HP2.
