    Rear Speaker Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i recently just bought my first audi a4 1999.. but i have a slight problem with the rear speakers as they dont go at all. Ive look under them from the boot and they wire looks all good, although its more confusing than my old bmw as the left speaker has a hell of alot more wires than the right for what reason??

I have taken out the sony headunit and all wireing looks correct i think, i have even tested another spear speaker with the wiring that leads to the rear but from the head unit side an it works..

is there anything i can do, or do audis have some sort of way around this as i am very new to this type of car??

hoping that i can fix this rather than paying a tech to,

    thanks

    Re: Rear Speaker Help

Welcome from NZ. A few things.

First this is the Audi B5/S4 forum. There is a separate forum for the A4's

But to help you with your problem we will need a little more information.

It sounds like you have an aftermarket radio in your car since it has a Sony.
If it has a Sony head unit, is it using the stock speakers or did they replace the speakers as well? It should show on the the bottom of the speakers what brand they are.

Our cars come with the Audi symphony head unit. Also the speakers are either the cheaper 4 speaker Blauplunct or the 6 speaker Bose system.

If it has the Blauplunct speakers, the one side will have a amp on it so it seams like it has more wires. So maybe your car has the Blauplunct speakers.

So why do they rear speakers not work? That is hard to tell. I guess I would try and make sure the connections are all hooked up right, or not shorted. Also if its just the rear speakers that are not working, then chances are they are hooked up to a rear amp of some sort. that could be the cause of them not working if a fuse was blown to that amp. the other thing is if it has never worked, maybe the previous owner took the amp out that went to the rear speakers and never told you?

I would try and follow the wires in the back and see were they go - See if they go to a separate amp.
