Looking at an A6 Avant, what should I look for?

Hey everyone, unfortunately my 01 a4 avant was totaled on friday, and now I need a new car. I came across a 1999 a6 avant, 2.8 auto I assume. Its pretty loaded out, with the Bose and xenons. Dark Grey with Black interior. Is there anything in particular I should look for? How about the tranny? I'm not real big on auto trans, but its getting harder and harder to find a nice stick wagon in any brand. And advice would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Jeff

I would suggest get something with a CPO because these cars can get expensive to maintain. How much are you looking to spend?

    1. make sure the timing belt job has been done... the car is 10 years old =)

    2. the control arms probably are on their way out as well.

    3. check cv boots/axles as well for any tears/leaks

    3. make sure the P Os had normal interval oil changes w/ Audi approved synthetic

    4. coolant temp sensor should also be replaced

    5. look for blinking abs/brake lights, a bad abs module causes this, they also go bad almost always within 120k.

    6. check/replace vac lines, i'd just do em all regardless as they do wear & the car is older

    7. and BIG BIG TIME MUST KNOW, have they had any oil leaks repaired? the cam seals are notorious for leaking and might look like bad valve cover gaskets, so its good to have those looked out or hope they've already been replaced because sooner rather than later you may be facing this $1000+ repair

Between 120k-170k I also replaced my fuel filter, drive shaft boot, engine mounts, trans mounts, snub mount, stock shocks, control arms, alternator, fuel pump, ignition switch, battery... probably missing a few..

Not tryin to scare ya, I'm just being straight up with my ownership over the last 5 years
