Anyone know where the fan motor is the heater? As soon as I turn on the heat theres a high pitched squeel from the motor somewhere.

Knowing Audi, Ill have to tear out the dash to get to it.

Bump for more info on this, my buddy just bought a 99.5 and is having the same issue, everytime the heater runs there is a loud squeeling noise coming form the engine bay.

Mine comes from behind the dash on the right but it's sort of off and on...

You replace the fan. See the DIY.

Re: High pitched heater fan noise. Where do I lube?

ok there are 2 fans and both can make high pitched noises. the actual blower motor is in the a/c box behind the glove box, if the noise is inside the car, get a new blower motor. however if the noise can be heard from outside the car it is more than likley one of the electric cooling fans. probably the smaller of the 2

Re: High pitched heater fan noise. Where do I lube?

i have same problem. only on start up though for about a minute. so i can live with it.

its coming from the passenger side, and cant be heard outside so im assuming its just the blower motor that needs a little lube.

so i have the same question as the OP. how do i lube this baby up?

Re: High pitched heater fan noise. Where do I lube?

I've got this problem too. Except I've just got used to it since it's cold and I don't feel like pulling my dash apart. I've found that if you hit your dash above the right center vent it goes away for a little while. I found that one out one day when it was pissing me off.

Same problem here. It's off an on, and i mostly hear it with the fan on low. I've learned to live with it
