Does the 10K oil change need to be done at the dealer?

    Hi,

I have an 08 A4 2.0T. I was curious, can I stop by the local expressway/valvoline to get an oil change at 10K, or is there something special the dealer does at 10K?

I was thinking of doing the 15K oil change at the dealer (& have the tires rotated again as well).

    Does that sound OK?

    Thanks,
    Rich

They change your filter, drain your oil and put synthetic in. The only thing I dont know about taking it to a local shop is the filter. I always go to the dealer to get the OEM filter for my car and do it myself. Maybe someone who gets theirs done somewhere other than the dealer can chime in?

DON'T GO TO QUICK LUBE PLACES IF YOUR CAR IS PURCHASED BY YOU. I had a few buddies work in em when they were younger. They would get X amount of dollars for not changing the oil if the customer wasn't looking, X amount of dollars for selling other fluid changes they never performed, X amount of dollars to reuse old oil. Most cars they never changed the filter on, even if they truely did the oil. If its a lease then go ahead. :)
Do it yourself and you know its done right.

I'd say go to the dealer at the 10k intervals up until at least 50k if not 55 and 65k. The 5k intervals you can do yourself, don't trust your car at a jiffy lube though- they don't use good enough oil for the FSI.

How hard is it to change the oil?

Im assuming I need 2 ramps & an oil filter wrench.

Is there a howto with photos around?

    A 1 banana job ?

its the simplest thing you could do to your car. yes, the easiest way would be to use ramps ($40 at wal-mart). come on meow, you can search:
