Hey, it's another exhaust poll! SWEET!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I'm looking at exhausts for my 1.8T. Yes, I am tiptronic, which limits my options because of the downpipe configuration.

Here is what I'm looking at...

Thermal R&D Cat Back Exhaust Street Version, not Race

Milltek Audi 2002-on A4 1.8T Quattro DUAL Stainless Steel Exhaust. TipTronic (no downpipe included).

    DeCorsa EuroExhaust A4 1.8T Cat-Back

Here is what is important to me...
    1) Good sound, no drone please as I commute a lot of highway miles every day.

    2) Performance gain, as I am going to mate this to a GT71r elim setup next summer.

Advice, comments are very welcome. I can't seem to find a clip of the Decorsa exhaust anywhere (yeah I checked the stickys).

    Thanks!

i voted other because personally think an exhaust on an automatic car sounds rediculous and just isnt my taste unless its an old muscle car... but to each his own, good luck

another vote for magnaflow. I have the 16601 setup, there a bit of drone, but not at highway speeds.

I love my Neuspeed+test pipe combo but that has some drone. Out of those choices, I know the Milltek has no drone and that might be the best choice for you, however it's the quietest. Let me know if you'd like a quote.

do you have that setup with a test pipe? how loud would you consider the setup, and how raspy? I'm really interested in the system my only doubt is if it will be too loud/ricey for my taste.

Well, what about the thermal street option?

I know the thermal race is about as loud as a full exhaust on a 1.8T can get. How much quieter is the thermal sport tune exhaust?

Does the magnaflow 14851 drone at highway speeds?

And what is the difference between the 14851 and the 16601?

Re: Hey, it's another exhaust poll! SWEET!

magnaflow 16601, I think it sounds best. And I wouldn't expect a huge gain from exhaust. I wonder if coupled with a testpipe and the GTRS, how would it sound...but we'll find out soon.

Heres vid for reference of how mine sounds exactly...

Re: Hey, it's another exhaust poll! SWEET!

i had the opportunity to purchase a milltek setup, but unfortunately i wasnt able to pick it up by the time i had money for it, but ive heard very good things about it. i am now running the thermal R&D setup, and i absolutely love it. i recognized an immediate difference in performance just from doing the exhaust. the thermal doesnt drone at all, its actually very subtle, and its not annoying. the thing i like most about it is the construction of it, and the way it looks hanging from the car. only issue i had was the center hangers not reaching the stock exhaust hangers, so i need to get some longer ones that will fit. i might be able to make a video of the sound if i have some time.

Not bad anymore. There is a lil droning in higher speeds. but 75mph is perfectly quiet. Anything beyond that you get a lil more sound. Ill post a video when I put everything in.

I thought AWE and Thermal were the same thing? The AWE is pretty loud and it does drone at highway speeds. So if AWE drones, therefor Thermal must as well?

Ok, here is what I'm going for

    Magnaflow 16601

It says this is downpipe back, will this fit on a tiptronic? Would the stock OEM downpipe mate to this?

Yes, mates right to it. The description says it fits both MT and AT. Really simple install too! Search the forums for 16601, youll find a thread with a discount code that will drop the price to about $600

Yeah, I think you just have to call or e-mail them and tell them you want to spend $589.

Something about Magnaflow not wanting partspeddler.com to advertise the system for that cheap.

This is great, almost half as expensive as a new Milltek system!

    Thanks for the help everyone!

I thought the difference between the 16600 and 16601 was quattro and fwd. The website says nothing about tranny option. Besides, both come with a downpipe.

you can get the discount by entering "bestoffer4em" in the code box when you put the exhaust in your shopping cart.

The price should be $589 with that code

I think you will be happy with the APR stealth exhaust. it has OEM sound, but if you wanna add more sound to it add a test pipe, your GT71r will like it....

APR doesn't have a tiptronic exhaust, and I'm not sure if the OEM DP will mate up to their exhaust.

Also, I'm probably not going to run a TP. Most software is coded to run with a cat anyway.
