Does anyone here know if the Merc wheels will fit over the by s4 brakes? I am in the market for a set and was curious about their fitment. They fit over the SLs so I assume these should fit over my brakes...anyone?

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

I was hoping you would chime in Winston!! Thank you!!

Now the wheel sizes are 18x8.5 in the front and 18x 9.5 in the rear
Offset is 35 in the front and 40 in the rear

I am going for the super stretch look...
I will be using 215/40/18 in the front and 225/40/18 in the rear...
I am hoping Capt Obvious will approve
Or maybe I should go for 235/40/18??

215/35 will give you the goatse amount of stretch you are looking for. The tire brand really matters too.

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

i am actually buying the setup from a VW driver. He has 215/35/18 up front and 215/40/18 in the rear. My brother advised me that the 215/35 roughens up the ride, and recommended the 40 series tire. I am now concerned about the rear tire set up because I do not want to mess up my drive train.

Once again thanks for the responses!! I am getting the wheels today and will be riding on its current setup for a week or so until I decide on which tire size...

I am surely going to miss my LM reps but I want that super euro stretched look

215 on a 8.5?!?!?! Thats just plain dangerous! lol I hope you don't bend a rim, because that is 0 protection on whatever you hit. You might as well just put a rubber band on them.

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

I know what you mean...but after seeing Adam@SPPs 19x9's running on 205's I figured 215s would be a tad better

This is also the reason why I am going with these wheels to do the stretch. I wouldnt feel as comfortable running those rubber bands on a 19inch cast wheel like my LM reps. I love the LM reps to death (even to run 2sets) but I just want to try a different look on my car. Almost all of my friends hate the merc wheels but what do they know about Euro Styling?

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

215 on the rear? Thats some stretch hes got going there. I can only imagine these came off a mk5 with tires like that. Thats a 9.5 rear on such a small tire.

The 40 series will give it a SLIGHTLY better ride. Nothing too noticeable, also that number is sidewall height in a sense so you will be losing the appearance of it too.

    Just trying to help

I stand corrected...he has 225/40/18's in the rear and 215/35/18s in the front. I think I will change those 35 series for a 40 series...what do you guys think?

Michigo is there any stretch with your setup? Ive been searching your posts but it would help to have all the info on this one thread =)

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

yeah i had some decent stretch.

I had 2x 225/35's on my fronts. Continental Sports (the OEM tires.) At the time it was a deal, but i got what I paid for. Bastards didnt stretch at all. Terrible tires to stretch with.

In the rear I had 235/35 Pirelli P6's which looked absolutely killer.

For tire brand, try Nitto/Falken/Pirelli. Those are my top choices.

I dunno about running stretched rubber on an Audi to everyone's tastes are different.

I prefer to have some decent sidewall so I can bomb around town and not worry about anything.

It'll be next Spring until I get to put on the CL63s I replaced the turbines with.

Go with the 225/40's if you want stretch.

Just a note though: you're gonna need to be LOW to pull off those tire sizes.

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

is 23.75" front and 24" rear low enough?

I actually raised the fronts a lil bit..I was sitting at 23.5" up front and I could NOT get over a speedbump without scraping. I am almost inclined to reinstall my lower belly pan so I can protect my underbody.

I might raise it up to 24" but I am going to slap on my 215/40/18 series Falkens up front so we'll see how much it raises the stance from the 35 series tire.

I am currently 4.6% off in rolling diameter with 215/35/18& 225/40/18

Would it be dangerous to drive around like this until thursday when the Falkens get in?

Like I said, only if you're really low. Most people won't have any rubbing if they have the bolt removed from the top of the fender liner.

Re: Question for those with Turbines/Alphards

i feel stupid but i did not know you can run the same size tires all around. I would have def went with 225/40 all around so you get a slight stretch on the fronts and a pretty nice stretch on the rears...Oh and you can actually rotate the tires on a staggered set up!

I think I may raise the car back up because I am stuck at -1.9 degrees of camber in the rear..and something like -1.6 in the front *yikes*

Of course you can, it's not as simple as simply swapping the wheels around of course, but it's still not that bad. You need to actually take the tires off the wheels and flip them from side to side so that the insides edges are now the outside edges.
