03 a4 3.0...got this car about 3 weeks ago and when I first got it I could fill up my tank completly and the nozzle would not click off until it was full...the last time I filled up it clicked off early and only filled about 3/4 of the tank. I tried turning it on to relieve pressure and the same thing happend even after I drove to a different station. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here...thanks

    Re: gas filling issue...help

yup, happened once, didn't happen again.

it could be a few things. the pump itself (which was my case i believe), the vapor return system could be clogged (charcoal filter), or the return system isn't opening when you insert the pump.

if it's the filter that can be replaced, the flap for the return system not opening looked to be a full tank replacement from what i found.

Are you sure that the tank isn't full but the gauge is off? Incorrect readings on the gas gauge has happened to a lot of people - can't remember the cause/fix, but I remember reading lots of posts about it.

I've had this happen just a couple of times before. Quick on-the-spot fix is to use the pump nozzle to keep the tank flap open for a bit while the pressure is relieved. You should hear the sound of fumes hissing out of it. This is probably just a temporary fix to a bigger problem but it's worked for me the few times i've needed it to.
