Tint

Im getting the S4 tinted Wednesday. Im going to go 20% all the way around. My question... the shop can tint windshields. (not just the sun strip) Anyone have their's tinted? The shop recommended 50% on the front. Thoughts? I bet it looks slick but might be a PITA to see at night?

it does look badass.... there is someone with an orange B7 RS4 on here that did it and it looks amazing. Personally i dont think its a very good idea! Things that have a light source you will have no problem seeing at night... but how about a person walking down the street?

A Tinted front windshield is nice if it is legal in your state and if it isn't the right 50% will just look like a reflection from the sun or a light source. Most cops can't pick it out unless the get right on it and then even some can't without a light meter.

Oh and by the way, ive been running this on my past cars for 2 years now, and no ticket. Because IMO its hard to tell the front is tinted, unless youre looking for it.

It does look great, but tint does effect radar detectors.

I think its illegal in Ohio... but Im not sure. The tinter has his windshield done, so I will check it out on Wednesday and make up my mind.

I believe its the amount of light that passes thru the glass out of 100% light. Just a guess. I will def post pics when its done.

the percentage is the amount of light let through. With 20%, only 20% of the light is let through, therefore it will be darker than something like 50%.

A light tint on the front might not be noticed, but its usually illegal. Here's a list for all tinting laws, just click on your state:

15% all around except the the windshield (not tinted).

BTW i think i have a buyer fot the TL so its time to kick up the S4 search..

If you ever plan on selling your car down the road I would not suggest it. It will limit the number of potential buyers

Despite the badass factor of having your windshield tinted, please don't fail to realize that it poses a serious safety hazard. A safety hazard that your insurance come may use as a basis to deny any and all coverage regardless of your history with them.

anything below 70% is illegal here in NYC but everybody does it anyway. the shops will tint the windshield but its on you if anything happens for having them and they're not gonna be liable for doing it to your vehicle. i have 20s all around and 40% on the windshield. it was horrible driving in the rain and especially at night in low lit areas so i removed the tint off the windshield because of safety precautions. im used to having tinted windows and feel naked without them.

30% is really not that bad i live in a very wooded area so at night the roads are very dark and i haven't had a problem seeing anything such as deer and other things

WOW... this thread got my replies than I thought it would. Im still sold on 20% on the sides and rear. Im up in the air on the windshield.... I love the look of the front on nimski62 S4. Looks like there is quite a lot to think about.

it really is not that bad at all it attracts alot of attention but im okay with it cops dont bother me and the worst is trying to back up just have to crack the window slightly though

I've been in, and driven, cars with full windshield tints. It may be fine during the day, but the minute the sun goes down or its raining, have fun trying to see the small animal, massive rim shattering pothole, or even the cop sitting on the shoulder/in the median. I'm all for window tints and know that "I'm paying to play" if/when i get a ticket for "
no compliant safety glass". I am not however willing to risk not being covered by insurance in the event of a crash.

seems too light on the sides...I need full coverage for when I'm changing in the car after work in the golf course parking lot!

car looks great though. I'm almost wishing I had black, not silver. Maybe I'll spend $10,000 to paint it like that other guy. umm...maybe not!

I did mine recently - went 50% on the front side windows, and 35% on all the rears. Black interior and dark car as well. Worked out perfectly - I am very satisfied with how it looks. Mine is an Avant. I need to get some pics.

Picked up the S4 last night. Went with 20% on the sides and rear. As much as I like the windshield tint I decided to pass on it for now. Tint makes the ride look soooo much better. Sorry for the crappy camera phone pics.

The guy who did my tint told me he did one for one of the Dallas Cowboys. He brought in his Range Rover and wanted double limo all around and 30% on the front windshield. My friend didn't want to do it and warned him but he wanted it anyway. Safe to say a couple of weeks later we heard that the player's wife drove the range rover to get some groceries and wrecked the car because she couldn't see at night.

Just fyi...though 30% is a lot darker than the 50% you are proposing. Also say goodbye to your map light because as soon as you turn that sucker on at night your windshield will become a black wall.

I say leave the windshield as it is and 20% all around but I'm biased because thats what I have!

i say eff the windshield tint. why gamble?

wear some sunglasses while walking around in your basement tonight with the lights off and see how your shins look after about ten minutes.
