Who raises their car for the winter?

Does anyone with CO's raise their car for the winter? If so, whats the best technique for this and bringing it back down to the same height in the spring? Also, the back CO's look like a PIA to adjust - whats the best way to adjust them?

just record how many threads you have left for the front and back before you raise it up

Re: Who raises their car for the winter?

Ive been thinking about the same thing. I just had my H&Rs installed a few months back so i haven't had this issue before. I think im going to raise it up some since my snow tires seem to have more rubber on them then summer tires do.

I'm guessing you have the same problem on your avant where you cant easily access the perches in the rear? I cant even see mine... dont know what my plan is on this one!

The only thing I know of is to loosen the subframe bolts to ease the pressure on the perches

If you do raise them up make sure that you clean them thoroughly before you go back down. Either that or spray some clear coat on threads.

Re: Who raises their car for the winter?

only do it if these two apply:
#1. your car is slammed and will be like driving a snowplow and
#2. you can get your car on a lift and really give the threads an immaculate cleaning with grease/oil. one piece of sand/grit can really screw things up when you are adjusting height.

Re: Who raises their car for the winter?

raise it? i actually just went a tad bit lower on mine FTW! I drive my b5 to the mountains about 5 or so days a week and i drive it at summer height (fwiw about 23.5-24 in ground to fender). Sometimes i do plow the road but with dedicated winter tires and quattro it doesn't phase the car! I have drove through many snow storms tuckin my winter tires with no problems. As long as you have a good set of tires and decent roads you will be fine. Drove it at that height all last winter on a set of nokian hakka 2's

Re: Who raises their car for the winter?

i would love to drop my car's ride height just a tad bit, but i would have to modify my raised driveway and sidewalk or else, i would eventually shave off the bottom of my car. But i wouldnt want to make my car into a snow plow as well.

Re: Who raises their car for the winter?

I raise my front only about 4 full turns of the coilover. which is approx 1/4" maybe a tad more.....

what I do is clean the coils very well and then mark the 2 perches with a sharpie or something.....then just loosen the same amount of turns per side....then after the winter I just go back down 4 turns.
