    Piggy Pipe Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,
    Piggy Pipe questions...
I am going to make my own piggies, anyone know if it would help if one wet down the inside of the pre cat prior to drilling and chizzeling out the filter material prior to battle. Do you think i'd be easier or at least less dust. From what i read it is a very dusty job.
Second once all piggied, if i use the VAST CEL eliminators on the latest set of O2 sensors on the system??? will that help me "not" get cel codes???
I know i need to be careful that nothing gets down to the cats.
I have access to hammer drills with long drill bits.
    thanks!

    Re: Piggy Pipe Questions

I guess you could wet it down, but I just sucked it up got a mask and went to town with my drill. I have a CEL eliminator kit more of a DIY from napa and never have a problem with my post o2's. just take your time and make sure you read up on it first, and get someone that knows how to weld in your new o2 bungs.

    Re: Piggy Pipe Questions

I did a DIY for doing your own piggies:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ate+diy+piggie

I did not wet down the insides down. I didnt think it needed it. But I would use a new sharp drill, that will help a lot. will drill through it like butter.

Personally I woudlnt get the Vast eliminators, 50 bucks is expensive for wht you get. Go to Autozone and get spark plug eliminators, as I have in the DIY post. (even have part numbers for what you need listed) total price under 10 bucks.

I have no CEL with these, work great

    Hope that helps.

    Did you weld/relocate any sensors?

Nope, I just the defoulers in the cats, and screwed the 02's into the defoulers. There are pic's in the diy.

    Re: Piggy Pipe Questions

    Thanks all for your feedback.
    I'll check the DIY writeup.
Does anyone know about the CEL eliminators, can i use them in where the existing O2 sensors are or will i need to have new O2 bungs located at a different spot and if so where is that?
Will my car still pass the emissions tests after the pipes are piggied?
    Thanks again

Just use spark plug non foulers from the DIY above. As long as you pass readiness in VAG-COM, you won't have a problem passing emissions.

    Re: Piggy Pipe Questions

Screw them into the secondary(rear) O2 bungs, the ones down by the main cats, then screw the O2 sensors into them.

yeah, you will really hear the turbos spool up more once they are done, can I really feel it, maybe some but I did mine at the same time as cat back so, it was more of a difference.

Just a friendly reminder, that getting a mask is probably the most important part of the whole process. The dust that is produced from the cats is highly carcinogenic. Please wear masks when you do piggies, guys.

*Edit* Oh, and the piggies should provide more power. It won't be as much as getting a chip or anything, but the turbos will spool faster, and the exhaust will flow easier, so I wouldn't be surprised if you gained around 30 horsepower.

I would've walked away from a shop that quoted me 40 dollars to do downpipes? That's nutty...Why did you pay them before the work was done?

    Re: Piggy Pipe Questions

It is a little bit of work gutting the precats, but they are not that hard. I used a drill, prybar, screwdriver and hammer. Oh I also bought a 15 dollar vice and clamped the precats in the vice, that really helped while your banging on the thing. The one that has a straighter line to the cone took a little over an hour. The other one took about 2 hours. Done.

Once you get the technique down, you can do it in about half that time. First time, it's likely gonna take you that long if not longer.

Ok, how big drill are you recommending? I was thinking trying 1/2" regular drill and maybe one of those 1" "hole saws"

Yup, those are a couple of the many tools I use. Make sure it's a quality drill with enough torque so that it doesn't bog down in the cat material. You'll know what I mean the first time the drill tries to dislocate your elbow

because they do all of the exhaust for our race cars. they are now done. i guess they ran out of oxygen for the torch.

That is if you want to go ahead and blow the grand for the aftermarket dp's. The extra 10 hp is not worth the grand+ for the pipes.

Dude, please please please don't tell me u are one of those "guys" that is insitant on being able to do Piggies in "under 4 hours on jackstands"......cuz that is im-fuckin-possible, maybe not for WMS or ASP, but someone that has never worked on an Audi before, it is impossible (talking about me, not u).

I duno, maybe u have experience w/ Audi's before, but if it was ur first time doing Piggies on jackstands either by yourself or w/ some1 else that has never done them, I cannot imagine them taking any LESS THAN 6 hours minimum

Hell, it took me and my buddy 6 hours just to get the fuckin drivers side front O2 sensor off!!!

How you gathered that I am one of those "guys" from me saying it's not that bad on jack stands.... It took me two days to do the install, with about 4-5 of that gutting Coming out was much harder than putting them back in obviously. It's perfectly doable on jackstands in a garage or driveway, whatever you have.

I've worked on Audi's for over ten years now and piggies are one of, if not the most involved DIY's I have ever done. The first time, yeah it's gonna take a while, but once you have gutted and installed them a couple of times, you learn what works.

I was just assuming you were one that says how easy Piggies are to do, simply b/c I see alot of them on both here and AW and it frustrates me to know these people are telling guys like us this is an easy mod, when clearly, it isn't.

Didn't mean to go off on you, I just hate it when someone says they did Piggies in their driveway on jackstands in 4 hours. It also took me the greater part of the weekend to do and was frusturating as hell!!!!

I just try and warn others that have not done this before how large and involved of a task it is and to not go into it thinking it is as easy as unscrewing a certain number of bolts and voula!
