Angry i will never race at a show again.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
this is copy pasted from my 1/4 contest thread, i'll figure out who won what later on tonight and paypal them.

well today was quite the interesting day at the track... got there at 11.... left at 6...

    i ran three times

needless to say, im PISSED. every fucking domestic that got on the track pissed all over it or wrecked (two wrecks, and they stopped to clean the track probably 20 or 30 times today from leaking oil/coolant) not to mention they had some big jet-powered car (that only ran a 7.71 on its second attempt) which on its first attempt blew a fuel line and leaked jet fuel all over the starting line anyways, after HOURS of waiting in line with probably 150 cars (oh, and they let all the muscle cars go first any time they lined up even though it was supposed to be an import show?) i got my three runs in

    and they were HILLARIOUS

    #1 - vs. 02 WRX wagon (stage 2)

    14.4@72mph LOL.
blew a hose off right at what i think was the 1/8... the 1000ft was shit, so i know it was before that. i just let it roll through the traps when i realized i had no boost... that sucked, but the launch was decent. still spinning like mad though - lagged into 2nd gear on this one from not holding first out long enough. (btw mike - for the one run [which is further below] that i didnt blow a pipe - the clamp on the BOV did help a lot!)

#2 - vs. Evo 9 MR (tweaked out stock turbo, ran 12.5's all day long)

    13.4@107
actually kept the hoses all attached ALMOST all the way on this one. it blew off again after the shift to 4th when i was about to go through the traps. had a decent launch, kept in it long enough to get through first and not bog.... until i missed 2nd. and then 3rd. shift times killed me on that run - but all my friends in the stands said i was pulling the evo hard as hell every gear once i finally got it in gear. reeling in a car doing 12.5's when i was only on 25psi is a good feeling

unfortunately no slip for this one.. the jackass at the booth gave me a slip for the run before me and i didn't look at it till i was already back in the staging lanes putting my FMIC pipe back on.

#3 - vs. CRX (high compression gutted ls-vtec or something)

    13.3 @ 89mph
this run went much better - until right at the shift to 4th where my hose, again, blew off. it was late, i was tired/hungry, and i had only had two other runs... i was NOT happy when that happened lol. anywho, 1.8 60foot was still less than i wanted but the same as my other runs - and the 1/8 mile on this one was 8.3@89. kept accelerating from there till the pipe blew, and then rolled through the traps at the same speed as my 1/8... ill have to dig up my other slip (run #1), idk where it went.

what a shitty track day. anyways - i'll paypal the winner later tonight. and i'm going back to fayetteville this coming sunday to actually get more than 3 passes in . and for half as much money.

the power is there, i guess i was just too nervous about each pass from waiting so damn long - i know i drove like shit today but i'm going to take care of the coupler tomorrow, find out what else is leaking boost (boost controller set @ 30psi, only ever made 25... we think the coupler that was popping off was leaking on it's way off) and then it's back to the track. nothing broke today though, which is good - and my clutch has been holding up just fine to run after run and burnout after burnout.

probably, we were gonna run on the highway on the way home to find out but i couldn't keep my couplers on.

i did run with a 400fwhp talon on the way there though. that was fun

    That sucks.

Best days at the track are the days within nothing scheduled. You can sneak in there and make runs all day long.

SOunds like the local track near me. You literally have to fight for a run in. If you dont cut the line than you arent racing. Simple as that.

Except mine is only an 1/8th mile

I run worm gear clamps and have never had anything blow off with my ER intercooler. Most folks with T-bolts have a tendency to overtighten them and create boost leaks as the the bolt will grab the silicon hose and bunch it up where the t-bolt goes across the clamp.

If you have a nice bead rolled onto the pipe and everything lines up proper...your hoses will not blow off.

I also have a worm gear clam on my IC end tank (simply because I keep ordering the wrong size t-bolt ) --- but I still think T-bolt clamps are a better solution. I have yet to blow a t-bolt clamp - ever! and I have seen 30 psi+++ -- The only hose thats ever come off is the one secured by a worm gear clamp.

The problems isn't the clamp, it is either he doesn't have a bead roll on that spot or there is something causing back pressure in that spot.

BTW regular Tbolt clamps do tend to leak after a while because the small section under the bolt does not put as much pressure on the hose as the rest of the clamp. I have to change mine every once in a while.

Sorry to hear that Daniel. I'm sure the results would have been different on a better organized event.

occasionally, for awhile i was blowing off the one at my throttle body no matter WHAT clamp i put on it, how tight it was on, or how i oriented/cleaned it... so i stuck on two worm clamps with the second one just BARELY off the edge of the coupler so that if the first one lets go at all the second keeps any air from getting all the way under the coupler (which is what we think was making it pop off). no problems with that one again so far, but i blew the same coupler off 3 times on the highway yesterday after almost 2 weeks of not blowing it on the street. extremely frustrating to blow the same pipe off SIX times in one day... 3 of the times being trips down the 1/4 on $8/gallon 110...

yes and yes. the only worm gear clamps on the car are at the throttle body, (had no other choice it would seem, as they're much thinner than a t-bolt) on my BOV, and holding my air filter on the end of my turbo.

on the hot side i have a two piece pipe kind of like the racetec. one off the turbo, and one from the turbo to the IC. it's that joint in the pipe where i also have a tap for boost pressure for my wastegate that's blowing off. I'm going to try a longer coupler (said this in my other thread too) to see if it just doesn't have enough room to expand/flex like it wants to and see if that fixes it. I've got today off so i'll know something in just a little bit.

on the upside it was nice to see a crowd of people around my car everytime i walked back to it, and everyone who watched me run said the car sounded mean as hell. i didn't get to race this SICK black sti though.... he had a rotated 3076r and a tial 44 open dump... ran a 12 flat at 112 with a 1.9 60'. that thing was BALLS fast.

Make sure you butt the 2 pipes together inside the coupler. If you have the tap in the coupler you might want to look into having one welded to the pipe.

yeah, the tap hadn't been a problem for the longest time... hell, that pipe hadn't been a problem.

but you know how that goes... you hit the track and things start going wrong

oh well, there's always next sunday. im trying to source a longer coupler so that it'll reach better, that's a lot easier for me than trying to find a longer pipe since that pipe is a bend and some really weird angle... to get it in the first place we had to just put a bunch of random angle bends in a pipe that looked close to what we measured/eyeballed and then cut them up and try them one by one to see what fit the best.

oh, and it turns out that the problem is the pipe not wanting to seat all the way in the coupler. atleast that's what it looks like.
