    Auto-leveling headlight error

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am getting that annoying Auto-Leveling error on my dashboard after swapping the Xenons with stock headlights and putting them back on my car.

My Xenons dont re-adjust anymore (going up/down) when I turn them ON.

Anyone knows where is that sensor and/or how to check it??? I made sure all connections are fine, still nothing.

I think its not just a matter of erasing the error code, but something with the sensor.

    Thanks.

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

IIRC, if you have lowered your car then the front autolevel sensor is too low.

You will have to raise the front of the car up about 3 inches and then you can erase the code.

^^ Did not lower it at ALL. Just put it on ramps, swapped them, swapped them back, got error on both Xenons and halogen headlights.

Did you use the VAG to clear the code?

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

I got the same error code when I had some bodywork done. The headlight was removed (and by removed I mean unplugged) and replaced properly by the shop. It needed to be reset by the dealer or by the shop. It was done and I was on my way. Yes, the code needs to be reset when the headlight is unplugged.

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

Yeah, I don't think it matters. Mine did the same as yours, lights came on without adjusting. I reset the code and it was fine. I'd start there and look for more serious problems if that doesn't work.

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

^^ so if you reset the code, the lights will start re-adjusting just fine?

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

Removing Fuse #10 will get rid of it until I VAG it later on. I dont want to pay the stupid dealer $100 bucks to clear me a code. Pizdiet.

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

If you remove/replace the xenons and power up the car the ECU will detect that the autolevel mechanism in the headlight is not there and deactivate it.

If your car is lowered too much and try to clear the code and it does not clear that is because the system detects the car is not level or out of its adjustment range so you have to level/raise the car before you can clear the code.

Disconnecting the battery will not throw the code as you cannot power on the car.

Finally... anyone with a VAGCOM can clear the code for you so skip going to the dealer.

    Re: Auto-leveling headlight error

The "home" position of the headlight servo motors must be reset in the range controller using VAG-COM. The servo motor position feedback potentiometers, in the replacement housings was at a different value compared to the position feedback value on the housings installed before. When a step change in position value occurs, the range controller can't figure out where the home position is at any more, so that needs to be reestablished in the range controller for the headlights currently installed.
