    Re: Inner tie rod DIY?

It's pretty easy to do. You need a BMF adj wrench, one that opens to about 1 1/2". Crank the wheel so the steering shaft is out as far as it goes on the side you're changing. Pop the bands on the boot and slide it back. Loosen with BMF wrench and remove. A bit of Audi oddness: the inner isn't six sided, it's 8. Reason unknown.

i think bmf adjustable wrench = big-mother-fuckin adjustable wrench. A big pipe wrench works too.

That is in fact the nut in question. Anyone know why it's 8-sided?

I was about to change the tie rod assembly when I saw that the boot covering the inner tie rod was ripped.
Does anyone know where to get a replacement boot?

atleast you know putting it back together will be easy. did you remember to measure the lengths and threads so you can get your alignment somewhat close?
