    How to replace dipstick tube?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was working on my car changing the vaccum lines since I have a boost leak. I fixed one problem and created another. My forearms are really big and I was changing the line going from the block to the DV when I wiggled to get a better position and snap cracked the oil dipstick tube clean in half. How do I get it out and replace it?

Yeah, those things are brittle as hell.

With force they pop straight out and with even more force they pop back in. It takes more muscle than most people think.

there a little clip on the side. push the clip and pull it off. then get the new one and seat it in place, smack it with a block of wood hammer until its all the way down. im on my third one. the heat makes them like a cracker

its a pain in the ass to get it to clip on you really have to push it down.

haha, here i was thinking that I was either A)retarded or B)I had a faulty part . Because I couldn't get that thing seated back down and swore I was doing something wrong, but it turns out you just have to push ridiculously hard

yeah at first i thought it was wrong since i would pull the dipstick and the funnel would come with it. then i noticed it wasnt fully seated so i put wood on top of it so it would be glat and then smacked it unitl it wouldnt go any further

Be really careful when pulling out the plastic parts from within the metal portion of the dipstick that connects to the oil pan. They like to fall in there then you need to flush them out with some crappy oil and do an oil change... ask me how I know this :-)

P.S. - Here is a link to a good write up on the subject (with pictures):
