Avant Tails

I just knocked a hole in one of my taillights. Now I need to replace it. I like my OEM tails alright, but not sure about prices. Anybody have ideas for non-OEM tail light housings that aren't ricey?

OEM from http://www.genuinevwaudiparts.com is 106...

Could I get 2 new cool housings for a little more?

Stick with the OEM housings.

Everything else looks bad.

Does anyone else make tails for avants? I've seen lots of different LED. non LED lights for the sedan but never an avant. I'm not thinking of changing. I like the OEM tails. Just curious.

look on ebay there are at least two different ones that i have seen, but they are both pretty hideous. i have seen OEM ones pretty regularly for decent prices though, so look around you may get lucky. also, they are typically sold individually so you may save some $ that way, rather than having to buy a pair.

All aftermarket Avant tail lights look horrible. If there was a set that looked great I'd have them on my car.

Then I look at the LED issues some of the sedan guys have and I rather change one halogen bulb than have a tail light with one LED not light up. That would drive me insane.

^^u know i think the LED tails issues were greatly exaggerated, as long as u run a resistor all is well.

Yeah you're right. That looks pretty terrible. I was just curious, I've never seen anyone do anything to the avant tails really. The sedan guys are always getting them smoked in all types of different ways. Anyway I still like OEM it looks cleaner and not cheap. Thanks for the info though.

Your right Winston, all of those tails do look bad. I ordered the OEM housing as much as I hate to spend 100 replacing my OEM housing that was perfectly fine until it had a run in with the corner of my sub box when I could have been modding something else. Anyway, stupid move on my part - but a new one is on the way...

Try this one... I had a tiny bit of condensation on the inside of my housings.

Took the passenger side one out, used some alcohol to swish it around and let it evaporate and when I came back there was a nice crack in the lens

Should have done it the old fashioned way with a hair dryer.

Had to eat more instant noodles for a couple of weeks.
