Re: Anyone have any tips for removnig/installing the slave cylinder

I've done it from under the hood....

Once you get its retaining bolt out, it basically pulls out of the gearbox.

Installing, I place the push-pin and boot in first, making sure its on the lever-arm, then install the slave.

I've done this a few times now, from under the hood, and have gotten quite good at it!

I've been trynig to bleed the slave from under the hood and it seems reasonable to remove it from there.... this whole thing has become a mess!

    Where are you hung up?

I removed my slave cylinder from the trans via the engine bay. I've never had to replace it and/or bleed it yet though...

I also put silicon grease on the boot to aide in getting it back into the trans.

trying to bleed my clutch... greg suggested i remove the slave cylinder. Right now my brake pedal is hard as a rock, and my clutch pedal is softer than normal.... the clutch is not disengaging so the car wont go into gear. I suspect there is still air in the slave cylinder.

I made a power bleeder, but it is leaking fluid at the reservoir when I pressurize it. I made it using a stock cap, which apparently cannot hold any pressure - last night I modified the cap and filled the inside up with RTV to make a better seal... I was planning on backing out the slave cylinder and using the power bleeder to bleed it when it is not installed.

as far as the brake pedal.. I don't have any idea what is going on. However, when my buddy was pumping the clutch, he pressed the brake and i heard what I thought was a burst of air under the hood...I wasn't near the car, so I couldn't really tell. He said he didnt hear it inside the car.

I thought Jordan said he had to bleed his slave cylinder the old fashioned way using two people. A power bleeder just couldn't cut it.

I used the two people method to bleed my slave, also lube the shit out of it to get it back in, I had a hell of time getting it back in all the way.

Re: Anyone have any tips for removnig/installing the slave cylinder

its easy to get it back in you just need a little trick... take a small philips head screwdriver, push the piston in and get the angle so that the screwdriver can go through the slave and into the threaded part on the trans. slide it in and your set

I was trying to show in the picture, I fit it in first, so that the rod is inside of the housing, it has worked every time for me. Try it without the screwdriver as much as you can, and when you get frustrated use it youll see how easy it makes things. Ive done this method ~4 times so far, perfect every time.

    Hope that helps

Re: Anyone have any tips for removnig/installing the slave cylinder

got the slave out, checked the plunger.. looked fine... then i gravity bled the slave by just opening up the MC cover and the bleeder.... let a bunch of fluid run through... then i put it all back together and I am back to square 1 - which is better than where I was yesterday

so now the car goes into gear and is driveable, but its not 'right'.... either way, im giving up and bringing it to the shop.... too tired/frustrated to continue debugging this one
