    Shipping a car roundtrip...tips/help?

Hey guys, I'm currently throwing around the idea of shipping my car to a stasis dealer to have the k04 installed (to maintain warranty since my car is an 07) and the nearest one is in atlanta. Anyone know of some good shipping companies I should call/research on the web? The car would be going from New Orleans to Atlanta and back. What would you guys expect I would pay?

    Re: Shipping a car roundtrip...tips/help?

Drive it to Georgia, according to mapquest its a little under 8 hours to get there. Will be WAYYYY cheaper than shipping it.

Shipping vehicles is a PITA, and definitely not cheap. I would expect it would be somewhere around 1000 dollars to get it done and who knows how long it would take them. Some shipping companies have set departure dates for all of their hubs. You might drop your car off on the 15th, but it might not leave until the 20th.

Remember that your shipping price has insurance cost that is involved with it also. When I shipped my car to alaska they chipped the piss out of my mirrors and hood. That took about 4 weeks to finish dealing with them until I got paid to have it sprayed.

BTW...Stasis parts don't void our warranty, similar to Dinan products for BMWs?

    Re: Shipping a car roundtrip...tips/help?

I'm not sure about stasis parts in general, but for the turbo upgrade I dont think you get the warranty unless an authorized dealer does the work. Only reason I'm considering shipping is because the install is something like a 14 hour job and I dont have the days to take off for that kind of thing. 1 day to drive there, probably 3 days of labor, 1 day to drive back...its almost an entire work week

EDIT: the other reason I'm considering it is that stasis is still offering their kit for a grand less than it will be offered later so its a bit of a wash...anyways just thought I'd look into it and see what you guys say. As it stands I wouldnt be able to take time off to do it myself until some time in June of 09.

I just moved from Atlanta, but I think Nalley did not much have luck w/ the Stasis program. They had 1 Stasis B7 but couldn't keep it in the showroom or advertise their relationship as the other ATL dealers were fighting the tuning. I might be wrong on the details but they never pushed Stasis.

Either way from what I was told by the people at Stasis, any repair refused by a non-stasis dealer will be paid for by stasis IF the engine is compression tested and the kit is installed by an authorized dealer.

Drive it. 8 hours is nothing. You'll be excited driving there b/c of the anticipation of the new kit, so the ride will go fast. You'll be excited driving back b/c of the new kit, so the ride will go fast (well, it might go fast for other reasons too...). Plus driving will be a lot cheaper, and you won't have to worry about the shipping company

Again, I'd drive it, but the shop work requires too long of a stay in ATL for that to be feasible. I guess I could possibly drive it there and fly back and forth....hrmm...

    ^^LOL

it all depends, cause if you get the weekends off, you might be able to drive your car friday night, have it their saturday and than take greyhound or walk back home.. and once its done do the same thing again...

but all this seems like a huge hassle, why not have dealer install it? didnt stasis say a dealer could install it? your bt kit would end up costing you a lot more with shipping, etc....but I guess if you already dropping 5 or 6k on a bt, what is another 1,000?

or just ship to the place, than fly/bus to pick it up and drive back and enjoy your bt!

on a side note: what happens if something happens do you take to dealer and they fix your problem or do you have to go back to the same place for install? Just curious!

    Re: Shipping a car roundtrip...tips/help?

Yeah, I'm just throwing around ideas at this point trying to minimize the waste of time/damage to my car due to shipping chips.

I'd get it installed at my local dealer but they need to have certain software and I'm sure my dealer doesnt have it.

As far as any issues after that, any Audi dealer can handle. If they refuse the claim, stasis pays.

Dude...drive up on Saturday, buy a RT ticket to NOLA out of Atlanta for departure on that day or Sunday...fly back up on the next Saturday...no time off and it gives them a few extra days just in case...you can get RT for 139.

I am moving to Miami in 2 weeks and my company is paying like 2300 for both my cars...

Yep. This looks to be my plan. I know shops end up needing leeway as far as install time and I can hopefully avoid bad roadchips driving myself. ATA is cheap right now!
